9/10/07 Already sold. Thanks for everybody's interest. Amberburst; Mint condition - no dings or scratches. Short scale (30.3”). Knobs a tiny bit aged, but no damage of any kind. Words don't describe how pretty the quilt is with the amberburst. I picked this bass up a few weeks back on TB after searching for one for a long while. But then I came across a Brown Bass I couldn't pass up. Now I need to recoup at least some of the cost of the BB or senior management will be considering layoffs. Only looking for what I paid a couple weeks ago (which was a good deal for what I'd seen). AMB1's are pretty rare. Ampeg only made them for a year or a couple in the early '00s. Basically, it's a reissue of the clear lucite Dan Armstrong bass - but in basswood with a AAA quilt maple top and beautiful finish. Very solid, great to play with fantastic tonal capability. More assertive than most short scales, due to the Seymour Duncan MM pickup. The bass has one volume and one tone knob and the series/parallel selector switch. The tone control is almost like a phase shifter. It not only adds bass or treble but it modifies the phase of the sound. With the series/parallel control, you can get a rounder tone or more of a “bridge pickup Jazz bass” kind of sound. Overall, this bass does round and warm, trebly funky and piano-like sustain very well. The neck is fast -- slim from front to back, but not uncomfortably narrow. The string through bridge allows really accurate intonation, lets you use full scale strings and contributes to fantastic sustain. It plays well fingerstyle, is a fantastic slapper and sounds good with a pick. It’s light (7 lb) and well balanced – very easy to handle. Email me for pictures (I have a new computer and don't have any idea how to reduce the image size). $675 plus shipping OBO. Paypal only. (Message edited by bassman10096 on September 10, 2007) |
