That bass was up for sale some months back. It never sold, the reserve was never met. I was in touch with the seller because at the time he thought it was an Alembic, and he was selling it for a friend. Now it looks like it is being sold by the original owner. The bass is definately a BecVar with a missing headstock logo. The last time the bass did not sell because it did not meet it's reserve. The guy was trying to get a small fortune for a bass that was not really an Alembic. The last BecVar I bought, I only paid $800.00 for it. Still have it too! I think not being a real Alembic, it shouldn't fetch Alembic prices. Michael |

Through the magic of photo shop playing around with colors, contrast and brightness one can see the outline of the Bevcar logo. Chuck |

That's what I thought. I remember seeing it last time advertised as a BecVar but having never seen one (well, except JPJs...which I assume is one!!) I wasn't sure. Any comment on how good they are? Looks like a niiiiice bass. |

In my opinion, this particular bass would be a good one. It has the Alembic series 1 electronics in it and the power supply. The rest of the bass is a copy. The BecVar I have does not have the series 1 electronics in it. I think what is in mine is EMG's. If you were to check out the pickups in mine, they look like Alembic, but the electronics are cast in the pickup shell. Very EMGish. Michael |

I email him... explaining that it was not an Alembic but a BecVar. He has updated his auction. |

If Bruce used to work at Alembic I would've thought the woodworking should be of Alembic quality; therefore if it's also got Alembic Series electronics would it not in theory be as good as an Alembic Series bass? Wish I had some spare cash, I'm quite taken with it (Me? Like a Triple O? As if....). |

Heck... A BecVar can't be all that bad... He "GhostBuilt" John Paul Jones' Omega! |

Exactly!! I wish I had some good pictures of JPJ's bass, I'd love to see the inlay work properly. The mandala on the upper bout, was that also an inlay? |

I'm curious... the first triple omega I ever saw was JPJ's... Who came up with the idea.... BecVar, or Alembic... or BecVar while at Alembic... or? :-) |
