I missed already 3 of them on E-bay. So I know they "pop up" from time to time. Purchase planned end of may, start june.
Somebody planning to sell? Somebody who knows someone? Please let me know.
I pay the shipment to this side of the "pond" if that's a problem.
Tanx for help!

***Sigh***
It's rather lonely in this department.
Yoohooo ...!
Somebody here??

Paul

PS: I'm sorry, I missed again a bidding on e-bay. I'm little pissed-off and desperate I guess.

Hi Paul,

just an echo in the dark: yes this is working but it seems there's no F-1X for sale yet (doesn't surprise me). I bought mine in April via ebay from Manfred de Roy and couldn't believe that I was the only bidder ! Manfred is also an Alembic club member and will probably read this (Thanks Manfred, the price was a steal for me ;-). I promise if I see one I will send you a link to it.

And ... no, I will not sell mine ;-)

***sigh***
I know -I know.
About a month ago there were 4 (FOUR - FIER- QUATRE - QUATRO - VIER - FOR CRYING OUT LOUD) on E-bay all of them in a 2 week span.
That moment I didn't had the money.
Now that I will have, there are no F1-X's.
And more ...those US sellers seem to be reluctant to sell to EU.
Why the #÷?¿<>-)*#$ should that be.
I was "THIS" close to have one and the guy didn't want to ship to EU!?¿
Well ...I guess I'll be practicing the art of patience for a long time.
Thanks for the reaction Werner!!!

Sshhhhhhhh
I won't tell anybody.
It's our little secret!
HA!!!!

BTW: it's amazing what one can do with Photoshop. With a little bit o'luck and a lot of hours work I'll play an Entwistle Tribute fretless sixstring with Carlos Santana in the Hollywood Bowl.

Gosh ...tanx Manfred.
That was quick.
I think I can manage to find a picture of a Entwistle Tribute somewhere. I'll "buy" the 6 string fretless (I'm not THAT quick in Photoshop)

Paul,

there's one F-1X for sale at http://www.station-music.de/ in Munich. The asking price is 750 Euro. Because it's a used one I guess the price is negotiable.

My advice, visit Edwin. I'm sure he has something in store for you ; )
Otherwise, with such a bass as you have, you probably don't need a preamp....

I hate to say this, but I snatched the last one that was on e-bay a few weeks ago. It is a beauty I must say. Not a scratch and sounds fantastic. However, fear not! Over at Talkbass.com a member by the user name of FIVESTRINGDAN has one for sale from his studio for $400 bucks. Most of the members there are pretty cool about most things and I'm sure something could probably be arranged on shipping. Plus this is a straight out sale, so no bidding required for his fantastic price! He just posted this, so you might want to act fast. Alot of the members there are also looking for 'em as well! Good luck to ya on your search.

Hi Mattheus,

well I bought the second hand SF-2 at Edwins place and a new DS5-R because back in 1996 when I bought Bonnie she came with the small power-supply. Edwin was so fair to keep the things for me because I was only able to pay for it in "bits and pieces". I'm almost there now.
He has NO F1-X and even not a sight on it when there will be one.

Hi Bill,

don't appologize. I was really pissed than but not anymore. I also was on that latest F1-X but the seller wrote "only shipped to US". So I had to e-mail him first to ask if there was no chance to do that for me anyway. The moment I discovered he said "yes" someone (you I guess) bought it already.
Anyway: it's the law of the market. Although what I hate is that in such cases (where you can "buy it now") we in the EU are always in a bad position in the case they SAY "no shipment to EU" but they DONT MEAN it!

Anyway: thanks for helping me on this you all but what I could have bought a week ago is not possible anymore now. There was this project for a client coming up for now and ...he postponed it again for at least 5 months. So the financial woos are there again.
I don't know if other brothers and sisters have this experience but economy and jobs are really going bad here.

I think I'm going in bank-robbery!

Paul the-formerly-bad-but-now-a-little-depressed-one.

PS Bill, a heartly welcome to this club from this side of the pond. If you wander around a bit you'll meet Paul the good one, he's a great welcomer and is better in these things. Anyway good luck with the F1-X. We'll change experiences as soon I get one.

He Paul,
when you're going into bank-robbery, can you do that at a bank in Belgium! Over here we don't like those messy things.
And when you give me a part of the profits, I won't tell anyone you did it ; )

But ..I send the guy a message. Asked him about conditions - money - etc ... you never know!

Thanks brothers: you are heroes!
However I feel so frustrated with all these unforeseen financial shit coming up.

I really don't get it anymore!
Brother Werner (thebass) was so kind to point out 2 F1-X's on E-bay for sale in the US.
I pleaded and begged to the sellers but my offer was returned: NO SALE TO EU!
Why the #$**??<%#-)@¿¿¿? is that?

Brother Paul:

Your cries of woe have not fallen on def ears among those here across the great Atlantic expanse. If you see another such preamp I would be happy to purchase it on your behalf from within these 50 states and take care of shipping to overseas to you.

E-mail me at paulboulet@hotmail.com when that time arrives and this unfortunate contingency will be stalwartly averted.

I would say that this is a small task for any fellow Alembic Club member to do for another for the advancement of their personal Alembic gear hoarding.

Call it a Paul-to-Paul thing too – if you’d prefer.

Hi Paul,

this time via the Alembic board. Here is another one but it says that he will ship in the US only. Contact him and ask for shipping to Europe before bidding. I figured that many US ebayers will ship outside the US even if they didn't list this. Its most likely that they simply didn't set the selling region correctly (which I did very often too for Germany).

Brother Jan and Brother Werner,

heel erg bedankt!!!
Vielen Dank!!!

My last experience with the guy who didn't wnat to sell was very "enriching".
I mean: I wrote the guy an E-mail asking why the **&(@>¿¿*** so much US don't want to sell to EU:
1. We EU have VAT taxes. Consequently we ask the seller to put a price as low as acceptable on the transport notes.
OTOH we want the transport to be insured. What gives some contradictions: a high value piece, send for a low price and under insured. The US people HATE to "fumble in the dark and sheat".
2. Not all banks in the US have SWIFT-codes. We in EU don't like to use Credit cards seen the danger in it. In the US is far more accpeted to do. So we ask them to WIRE the money. That can be done very easily ...WITH a SWIFT-code.
3. Sending a cashier check to the seller needs at least 30 days for money-clearance.

The guy was VERY friendly and apologized but he saidf he was really fed-up with the stress and so on.

Jan: the UK-guy also was very strict: UK only!!!

HOWEVER!

There is some good news!
I received an E-mail from a friendly US-guy who offered me his mint F1-X at a good price.
I accepted.
We are now working out the details.

So here is my question on everybody who may have some experience in sending stuff from US to EU.
Please be so kind to post your experiences here so I can share it with the kind seller. You can also E-mail me directly.

BTW: he's from Lowell MA and he has also a Stanley Clark 1999 mint condition for sale. I suggested him to put it in this department too!

So ...if someone can be of any assistance??

Hi Paul,

You can send a money order, expensive and takes a long time, maybe paypal is an option. That is fast but it also takes a lot of time to setup the account and you'll have to wait for a confirmation code, or a bank wire. Maybe you can use the urgent option at your bank. The other guy should have it in three to five days.

In case of a bank wire you'll need his bank name and bank address, swift code and/or routing number, account number and the guys name and address. Well, city and state are enough.

That's it. I don't know what kind of transport you prefer, US mail, UPS or Fedex. I have a very good experience with Fedex. Ok, the costs are a bit higher but they do what they promise. US delivery or receiving in three days. You can lower the product worth to lower customs. I don't know about belgium but, well... you know what I mean. It's a good time to buy US products because of the USD/Euro currency.

If you need more info, let me know.

Have fun,
Manfred

Hi Manfred,

customers taxes are 10%. I can live with that.
VAT is not that important because I have a VAT number (I am in the Communication Business as an "independant') so it's a complete legal "import" operation and I have no VAT to count.
BTW, the seller has a PA -sound company so it's all pretty "neat" I think.

Paul TBO

I really hope he has a bank with SWIFT-code, it's cheap and "swift" LOL

Brothers and Sisters
just to keep you all posted.
Everything is going smoothly until now.
Brother Paul the good one and brother Paul the fake one (the artist formerly known as Dino) were of great assistance.
The F1-X is wrapped and well in Lowell MA USA and ready to be send. I got an invoice by mail.
The bank of the friendly seller has no SWIFT-code but (hopla) there is something as a "routing"number that gives a bank in US an unique digital adress.
We'll see what it gives.
Anyway ...I'll be back with news very soon.
Thanks for support and help to everybody!

I started this thread so I "close" this too (haha - Paul closing something THAT will be the day!)

Yesterday evening I played the F1-X for the first time in combination with the Dynacord L-1000 poweramp and the Glockenklang cabinets.

Wew!

Very thight. Beautiful tone, simple to master, my bandmembers where just blown away. Not because of the volume necesarily but (ts-ts-ts) beacuse of the extreme thightness and "pureness" of the sound.

I would like to thank especially Brother Harold Goodman from "A better Sound" in Lowell who sold me the amp. It is indeed a piece in good (VERY good) condition. It is/was great to do business with you

Thanks to everybody who helped and to the 2 Pauls (the good one and the fake one) for practical help.
The ANEC was of concrete help because Brother Paul the fake one (the artist formerly known as DIno) went over to Harold's place and checked the amp out for me.

Real brotherhood!

As soon as I finish the construction of my new rig I'll post some pictures.

Paul the bad one (and very happy)
