Does anyone know offhand what it would cost to upgrade this bass to a Series II?

Thanks,

Andy

The quote generator shows an upgrade cost for a MK Deluxe to Series II electronics to be $5500. The only sure way to find out is call Alembic directly.

man, it pains me to sell this...but I really need to get going on gathering my funds for my custom order, which is being discussed with Beaver at Bass central...
Some one in the club snatch with BIN and I will upgrade the shipping to overnight and full insurance :-)

That used to be my bass.

It was in near new condition when I sold it to wu, I'm sure it's still in that condition.

Good luck wu. He's a good guy to deal with, I will vouch for him.

Andy,

This has come up before: if you order an Alembic with the option to upgrade to Series electronics, they make the body thicker, and probably do the routing for the extra back cavity and pre-mount the dummy pickup. So unless this MK was built that way ...

Adriaan, the listing does say that this bass has the Series prep.

Yes, this bass has been prep'ed for Series electronics.

That means:

Body is HOLLOW just like the real series basses.
Dummy Humcanceller is the real thing and has been pre-wired.
All cavity that is required for series electronics are already routed.

So all you need to do is to buy a used series bass, swap electronics, and sell it with Anniv electronics (at least that was my plan).

Even the serial number on this bass is set up as series bass. It does NOT have the usual model designation of MK or MJ between year and sequential number.

Wu is selling for less than what he paid for. I believe this is a great deal if wood / set up is what you are looking for. Remember, 5A quilt is super expensive and continuous wood backplates for series electronics is VERY expensive.

If I wasn't holding my money for short scale bass, I would probably reclaim it as I am regretting the sale, but I must be strong ... >.<

Now I am regretting putting it up on the bay (after a night thinking, this is probably a bad idea for me to give up this one...)...if no one claims it...I think I willjust pull the listing, to avoid regret later, and gather money else where

Thanks Takeo-

So to make it a full Series II you would need the pickups and the electronics, basically? Does anyone have an idea of what that would go for and could that just be ordered and done by yourself.

As I have never played a MK style body and I am considering this deal, can anyone speak to how they balance both sitting down and strapped on, especially with the 32" scale? Looks like a sweet bass...

Thanks,

Andy

Wu,

If you think you might regret, just pull the auction. You can always get the money elsewhere.

Andy,

Yes, you just need the single coil pickups and electronics to do the job.
Last quote I got from Alembic was like 3000 dollars with trade-in of my Anniv electronics. That's a lot of money, but they'll then re-tune the electronics based on your bass, so that might be the 'right' way to do. But you can do the electronic swap 'cheaper' if you can find a beat-up series bass, swap electronics, sell the beat-up series, and have Alembic upgrade the electronics. But that might prove to be more expensive, it all depends i guess.

This bass balances decently, since it is medium scale, but it's no where close to balance of bass with longer upper horn. But it's not to the point where it will do auto-head-dive.

Good luck guys. Wood work on this bass is more than justify the price wu is asking. I really think it is a awesome deal, unless wu regains sanity and pull it from ebay.

The beauty has been ended early on eBay.

Wu, if you have decided to keep it... continue enjoying that gorgeous bass!
