I emailed the seller about this. Apparently he had already contact Mica/Alembic and was told (via the serial number) that this was a Spoiler. This doesn't have the typical Spoiler shape, but if you check out the electronics, you'll see that it does have Spoiler electronics. This obviously was one of the many custom basses that Alembic has produced over the years. It seems like a lot of bass for the money, but I think it suffers from being labelled as a Spoiler (which generally sell on Ebay for around $800, unless the wood is something spectacular.)

Yeah .. I know about the electronics. It IS a Spoiler electronically spoken. But, the design seems VECTOR to me. I remember a thread some in the past soem people expressing their love for the Vector Design. I even mailed them the page from the old Alembic folder with "vectors"

If I recall, many basses were known or ordered by the electronics packages in the 80's. You can get whatever you want of course. You may be interested to know that the Spoiler electronics are more expensive than some offered by the company. The very first Spoilers were 32 scale solid koa wings, 3pc maple neck through, schalers and the electronics 2pup, selector, vol tone Q. They then offered a top over mahogony option, then a top option with an accent wood. I have all 3 examples plus an Exploiter that has double jazz alembic pups vol, vol tone, quilt maple top over mahogony no accent. 34 scale but ordered as a Spoiler. True Dat.

It happens I bought the Vector body Spoiler in question (above, off Ebay). I love it and appreciate the info in this thread. Mica and the Alembic folks have been extremely helpful and accomodating in dealing with a minor technical fix that was necessary on this instrument. I guess I'm learning early that Alembic not only builds great basses, but also treats folks very well. Thanks Mica and all!

I join Mattheus!
Welcome to the club Bassman!
A lot of people fell inlove with that bass. The design is VERY nice.
So please provide us with some pictures in the appropriate department (there are really not much Vector-styled basses around here).
Dont bother about the guy in the corner yelling "pictures-pictures-pictures" that's Brother Paul the good one.

There's an '88 Series II with a Vector body on Ebay right now (sorry no URL but Ebay is not navigating for me today). The horn and bottom profiles are identical to mine (below), but the body seems to have been widened - probably to accomodate the S2 electronics. That would not be surprising as my Vector is no bigger than an Essence and contains Spoiler electronics (much smaller than S2).
