I am watching it as it *should* be a bargain Alembic guitar compared to the nice Skylarks and occasional high end items that show up for sale. That's especially true with no case, solid finish, and dinged up with extra holes from a synth kit removal. Unfortunately, I think the seller has a reserve on it and may be looking for too much money. We'll see...

I would ask to see more pics with date stamps from the seller on this one. A case and a synth pickup in the pics - not included in the sale - raises a big red flag for me.

I don't have a red flag on the listing at all. I would like to see pics of the guitar with the synth pickup removed to see what it looks like today, but that's not critical if I'm going to pay the $1500 or so I think it would be worth. If the seller wants $2K+ for the guitar, then it doesn't matter to me how clean the rest of the finish is. If you're looking to chase this one up around or beyond $2K, then you might want better pics of the guitar as it will be delivered. Might also want a description of how it will be packaged and confirm that it will be insured for the purchase price when shipped. The latter may involve a negotiation and adding $10-20 to the shipping cost.

I'm not worried so much about the legitimacy of the offer since I would pay by credit card through PayPal and be protected against fraud.

Bob, I think this same guitar was posted here on the Club a year or two ago, for like $1200 I believe. Exact same instrument. No idea if the current seller is the same person. You may find the listing in the forsale section history.

Good catch, EffClef. It was offered for sale about this time last year by Eugene (u14steelgtr), though no price was specified. I didn't see any note saying it was actually sold or what the price was.

The one possible flag raised by your memory and my quick search is that all four pics on the listing were taken from Eugene's postings. I suppose I would be interested in making some contact with this seller or hearing from Eugene that this is the guy he sold it to before I would make a bid.

I set a slightly high Reserve on this Auction to see where it goes. If it doesn't make my Reserve then I might re-List it with a more sane Reserve.

If I end up re-Listing it I will have the benifit of more time to determine exactly how much this guitar is worth to me.

Yes my fellow of the Esquire profession, I am sorely tempted on this here geetar. I too would like to see some pics with the roland removed. I happen to have one to put on it if fortune smile down upon me. I just recieved my gubment refund so I may be able to psycho-logically justify this to myself.

I bid twice. Ino hit ah da reserve. In need of a refinish by my liking so thats an additional chunk of cash to Alembic, plus the substantial wait time.

Ah - I guess Eugene never sold it last year, so using his pics on his listing makes perfect sense...

Well, auction didn't get very far. I think Danno and I were the only bidders.

Indeed: there was almost no interest at all in the guitar. Only 2 bidders and 540 page views.

Well I decided to relist it as a No Reserve auction to see if I get any interest this way.

At the suggestion of Kris I did add a picture of the guitar with the Snyth-Pickup assembly removed. My Cell-phone camera is really mediocre (and it shows)!

Well, if you drop your starting bid by $100, I'll give you an opening bid, but you're above where I was willing to go. Give me a shout off-line if you want to make a deal at that level if the auction doesn't get it taken care of.

Well I decided to List it one more time before I put it in the back of my closet again.

Eugene:

As an inveterate ebayer, in my opinion you'd have better luck with better pictures. Just my $.02. Good luck on the aution.

Thanks Bill; 4 of the pictures are 1790x1200 which is higher resolution than most eBay listers offer so I am not sure how to improve them.

I do not own a good digital camera.

I would welcome any suggestions any of you could offer.

Well, you could have sold it to me for the high bid of the first auction...

As far as pictures go, If I weren't an Alembic guy to begin with, I would probably be looking for pictures of the guitar as it will come. That is, a good body shot minus the synth pickup to show that no damage was done in the mounting and removal. Beyond that, I wouldn't need anything more than what you have provided.

I believe Bob and I were the two bidders. But you never know when the GAS hits hard and the wallet flows. Some better shots of it polished up would have been helpful to me. Nothing says black like shiny black.

Danno loves that shiny black, and a true working musician can often justify a few more dollars for the right gear. This is definitely not a closet special with the various nicks and belt buckle rash down to the wood, but it still has to be a great player and valuable guitar. Those pics are very high res, but maybe not as clear and well lit as they could be.

Eugene, you might consider looking in our profiles and contacting Danno and/or me via email if you want to try and make a direct deal that could save the ebay and paypal fees.
