I bought these on ebay. I suspect that they are hum cancelling pickups but fit a strat pickguard. Can anyone tell me if they require a preamp and any experience with them. http://cm.ebay.com/cm/ck/1065-29392-2357-0?uid=4748955&site=0&ver=EOIBSA080805&lk=URL&Item=120259187045 thanks barry |

your right, they are designed for use with a preamp...other wise they will be quiet,thin,etc... I don't think there is any humcancelling there...there would be a dummy coil somewhere and some electronics to sum it all up. I might be wrong. I have some alembguts in a box if you get to the point of needing some...most work,mostly... (Message edited by elwoodblue on May 13, 2008) |

Barry: These look to me to be a Telecaster set, with one pickup larger than the other, though it might just be the perspective of the picture giving that illusion. They should indeed be humcancelling - a regular single coil stacked over a dummy coil, as the only true single coil pickups Alembic makes are for Series instruments. You will need a pre-amp at a minimum. You can get a pre-amp and low pass filter from Alembic. You can also easily add a Q switch (highly recommended). If you are looking for the most economical solution, I have an Alembic shopnight employee guitar that uses an Alembic Strat-o-blaster and a regular passive tone control rather than the pre-amp/filter combo. You can see it here. Bill, tgo |

I'm guessing that they are regular strat pickups but I'll know better when I get them. Once I get them and figure it out...how I'll use them I'll get back get back to you guys. I appreciate your help. I had been thinking stratoblaster as well. I had looked at a couple on Ebay but am still learning that part of the guitar. best |
