Base list price for a Series II four string is now $17,700. If you get max discount and no additional features, you're looking at about $13,300 plus case, taxes and shipping charges. I guess the short answer is no, you can't get a new one for just under $10,000.

Don't forget the custom options add to the base price: Bevelled peghead; Front laser LEDS (blue too?) Blue side LEDS, extra 1st position fret marker & Laser LED; Abalone (included in Series 2 price?) CocoBolo is also an upcharge for SC model. Very pretty bass. Would like to see a pic with all the LEDs on.

I bought the sister of this one, he had a pair made and I got the fretless. You can see this bass under construction here
If he says its mint, be assured it is, when I collected mine from him it was totally spotless in every way, including the case and all accessories.
The only thing I dont understand is why he had a pair of instruments built at huge expense and then sells them a year later...

Hi, I just picked this up from Mike, the original owner (he commissioned the bass - you'll see the thread in Factory to Customer). As rolty suggests, the bass is absolutely as new - stunning - the sale included all the original accessories (and more). Mike is an incredible person to deal with (an aesthete with exquisite taste). He also has an extraordinary collection of basses, part of which appears to turn over fairly frequently (I think this explains the sale of the pair of year-old custom short-scales). As for price, well it wasn't cheap but the spec is stunning - all that's listed above (thanks bsee and keurosix) plus extra laminates, a stunning logo, and yes, the front leds are blue lasers. I don't know what the original price was, however, including carriage, import tax and VAT - around an extra 23 or 24% in total - it must have been around $30,000 (probably in excess of this). The action is a little high for me - I also use extremely light guage strings - I'll see my luthier this week and have the necessary adujustments made. When all is done, I'll post some pictures.

Congratulations on the new Bass Lawrence. Seeing as you're in Manchester I'll expect to see you at Bass Day on the 9th November. There should be at least 3 Alembic players there.

Congratulations Lawrence- I watched the build thread on that bass and was quite taken with the top on it.

If you check the FAQ section there are several REALLY good instructional posts on adjusting the action on Alembics. I was always really gun shy about messing with my instruments, but Joey's directions for setting up Alembics broke the ice for me and now I'm able to dial in ALL my instruments and adjust for any seasonal changes or desired tweaks.

Hi all, thanks for the welcome, comments and advice - it's great to join you with this my first foray into Alembic ownership. I have to say that the bass is a joy to behold and play - I've been fortunate enough to have some exotic and very beautiful basses but nothing has come close to this in terms of craft and artistry (and sound) - the timber and finishing is truly unbelievable. I'll have the bass set-up properly - I use very light strings - in the next week or so and then report more. Thanks for the tip on action adjustment posts - I'm a bit concerned about doing the work myself but will pass on the leads to the tech. (we have a great guy here in Manchester). Jacko - I'll certainly be at Bass Day - last year was incredible! More soon - thanks again!
