Stunning bass, but not for me. Serial number 03SJ13171. Flamed walnut top, mahogany core, bubinga back with bubinga back plate. 30.75 in. scale, currently sounds great with low B and would obviously be good with high C. Comes with Alembic fitted hardshell case. Near mint condition. $3800. Shipping within USA included, and I will ship to Europe for only $100.

See pictures here: http://s202.photobucket.com/albums/aa77/szusman/Lakland%20Scheff/Alembic%20SC5/

I'd be happy to e-mail jpg files to confirm mint condition.

Man, I would love to own this thing and turn it into an EADGC tuning. Any thoughts on the types of trades you'd be looking for?

I'm leaning towards Fodera, Celinder, or MTD. Preferrably 5-string. I'll try to be open-minded, but I'm more amenable if you have cash to add to it. Feel free to e-mail me with some pics and an offer.

Yep, this was on e-bay a few weeks ago, and it did not sell. I bought it directly from the seller.

I might as well point out that I have two other basses, non-Alembic, for sale. I would give you a fantastic deal if you want to take any combination off my hands! These are all great basses, and please look me up on ebay (szusman) for referrals.

1) Fodera NYC Empire 4, probably built in the 1990s. Ash body, quilted maple top, rosewood board, upgraded to newer Pope preamp. Comes with SKB case. Good condition: there is a cigarette burn on the headstock, and some crackling of the finish by the neck joint on the back, but no structural issues whatsoever. Currently on ebay with a Buy-it-Now of $2200.

2) Lakland USA Scheff Fretless 4. Previously owned by Dan Lakin. I'm the third owner. Excellent craftsmanship, killer fretless single-coil sound. Quilted maple top on ash body, lined ebony fingerboard. Comes with Lakland deluxe hardshell case. Excellent condition: just one small ding in the finish on the top. $2200.

I didn't realize that this was the bass that was on eBay for significantly less a few weeks ago. Never mind...

Folks, please don't be offended by my original $3800 asking price. I know how people barter with trades and low-ball offers, and that's why I started at $3800. That is what I think the instrument is worth, based on retail and other sales on ebay.

We all know this is NOT a $2800 instrument, and selling an Alembic SC5 at that price point is doing Alembic (and Alembic owners) a disservice, imho.

Bottomline: if you want to buy this bass and/or have something nice to trade, please contact me directly with your offer.

What did you not like about the bass? I know 5 string small bodies are neck heavy (nature of the beast), was that the problem?

Actually, I thought the balance was fine both sitting and standing (with a 4" strap). The issue for me was the preamp and possibly the neck thru construction -- I just could not adjust to the Alembic sound. (This was my first Alembic, and while I can appreciate it, it's just not my style.)

There have been a couple requests for bigger pics of the Lakland fretless. Here you go! I've also included the Fodera NYC.

One of you big money guys out there should buy the SC V. I sold my SC V for $3500 to a guy who put it on ebay for $5000 and sold it. This one is cleaner than mine was and even has continuous wood! Somebody please buy this!

Seems like B string has been a problem and nothing has really worked to solve buzz problem

I don't have a problem with the B-string. You have to play it with a light touch, that's all. Intonation above the 7th fret is yuck, but who plays on their B-string up there, anyhow? I think the bass probably would like to be tuned EADGC, but again, I was not disappointed with the B-string. That's not why I put it up for sale. (It's the overall preamp concept and neck-thru design that I have discovered is not really my sound ideal -- gorgeous bass, but not for me.)

My Alembic SC V just sold. The Lakland is now on e-bay (but I will still entertain trades). Thanks Alembic Club for helping me sell my bass!
