Elan as advertised or Europa? I don't know.

Great price!

I'm actually very interested in this bass, but the owner is selling local only. Are there any club members in the area interested in helping me acquire this one?

It looks like an Elan to me with upgraded electronics (Elan Plus?) and extra neck lams.
Ask for the serial number: H = Elan, U = Europa ;-)

Huh. If that is an Elan it is the most Europa looking one I've ever seen. It's a '92. Well I guess it comes own to the serial...

It's an Elan headstock and the bodywings looks like the fatter Elan style (though hard to see on the picture)
The pickups look like AXY, the standard for Europa is MXY.
But hey... she's an Alembic, she can also be an Europa with custom features.
Lovely bass, good luck trying to get her!

Yeh, I suppose it's not pointy enough to be a Europa.

Looks like an Elan to me. I think the angle and clarity of the photo have distorted the body shape somewhat.

I agree, i think it's an Elan with the upgraded electronics, I have the 4 string version but with double fender precision bass style pickups.

What's the difference between a Europa and Elan? I thought the primary difference was the maple body of the Elan rather than the shape.

The Elan came standard with the all maple neck w/ walnut veneers. The Maple body is another difference between the Europa and Elan

I got more detailed pictures of this bass. It seems to be a mix of Elan and Europa features: maple body wood and elan shape, but purple heart lams, europa electronics, and bird tailpiece. Elan serial number though. I'll post them it anyone's interested.

Another standard difference between an Elan and a Europa is neck taper.

According to the body shape history page, a Europa body is an Elan body with a quarter inch shaved off and tummy and elbow carving added.
