I have another custom on order and these weren't made for me so sad choices have to be made. That will leave me with 14 Alembics when the 10 arrives. More than enough for anyone. Plus I have 7 geetars and 5 basses of non Alembic origin (5 of which are black btw). Heck, even my car is black......

Yes, all 34" the Essence is spoken for for now if all the details come together. The proceeds will be recycled back to Santa Rosa for the black excel 10. So its an almost "green" dare I say way to spread the Alembic culture around the mother earth that we love rumbling about on.

The Exploiter is taken as of 9:00 p.m. , the Essence is to end up in Poland. Where will the Epic travel to I wonder?

bsee, I only have 1 medium 5 a mint refinished Distillate in Walnut and it would be on the high side in price (about 3k). I got it from the mothership with Susan and Mica's blessings and I'm very partial to it right now but thanks for your kind wishes. I may be parting with a wide Elan Plus 6 in walnut in the future as the 10 is born. Perhaps someone is interested in an Epifani T310 with wheels and cover upgraded to dual neutrik?

Danno, I was looking at an "old" family picture of yours with that Distillate in it and she's a beauty. I figured you'd have a black Spoiler 5 or two among your collection.

I think the vicinity of $3K would be a very fair price for such a bass, but I'm more happy to hear that you're enjoying it than I would be to acquire it. I'm just looking for something short and decent that I can string EADGC to see how it might fit in with my current group. If I were sure that it would work, $3K would be a no-brainer.

For those interested in Danno's basses, here's a link to a thread from a few years ago with a decent pic of the then-current family:

The two basses will be going out this week. One to Mass., the other to Poland eventually. Thanks to all the members and especially the buyers for helping me make my new bass possible and of course enabling others to procure another instrument of their own.
The Epic 5 is still available to someone who wants and needs it. PS, don't throw away your Alembic boxes! They come in handy!

Thanks John - I KNOW it'll be well worth it!

Too bad it won't get here before I enter the studio with Night Rider Symphony... But I'll record the album on borrowed Alembics - a maple Essence 5 and an Epic 4 - so the bass will sound great anyway... Well, at least the sound will be good, too bad about the playing, lol :-D

But hey, there will be some more recordings early next year... ;-)

Please post some pics and your impressions in the Showcase once you receive it. I'd be interested in yet another perspective!

You need to be patient. If you had the bass you'd still have the bills unless you planned to sell it and make a profit. If it did get there you'd still be waiting for the ship to cross over to Poland. I lent a bass to a guy who sold it and took off. I was left without it, my investment and I had to buy a new bass. I helped a guy out by charging gear on my Sam Ash for his recording project. He defaulted, I had to pay the bill, he moved away and I haven't seen him in almost 10 years. He still owes me $2000. I have other experiences of being a nice guy and getting screwed. You were insured so as soon as the claim is settled I will wire you the money. Be upset with the thief and the driver who allowed his truck to be compromised.

Danno - it was to be my main bass for years to come. I was supposed to pay the debt by selling my current main bass (or 2)...

And yes, I'm angry at the thoughtlessness of the driver and I hope the thief eventually gets caught.

As for you - I trust you completely, please don't take personally what I'm saying here! I'm just upset with the situation... Very upset.

But as for UPS - I don't trust them at all and won't be calm until they pay the insurance. I've heard many horror stories about them finding reasons not to pay...

And one more thing: since UPS were more than happy to accept extra payment for insurance of the package thus accepting the responisibility for it it's their UNDISPUTABLE DUTY to refund the full insured value (plus the shipping costs, as the parcel was never delivered) immediately, no questions asked.

Having had UPS "lose" a VERY expensive bicycle, I can tell you that it will take quite some time for them to resolve this.

In my case, they finally found the bike intact in its case after almost a month! I was very happy to get it back.

It takes quite some time for them to get "misplaced" packages to a central lost-and-found. Then they have to go through them and try to figure out whose package it is. Unfortunately, it is NOT a fast process.

However, there is the very real possibility that in the end you will get your bass. :-)

No info from UPS so far. They happily took extra charge for insurance and now they're doing NOTHING.

I consider it a theft on their side.

What a NIGHTMARE!!! Did the package get left at your door and then stolen, or is it just missing? If it's just missing it will probably show up at some point. If it was stolen from your house, it will probably appear on Ebay. A lot of us surf Ebay pretty regularly and can keep an eye out for it. Does Danno have any other pics of the bass? I've had some VERY expensive equipment left at my door over the years. Thankfully I've not "lost" any of it, but some of it did sit there unnoticed for several days (who even uses their front door?). It amazes me that they continue to do business that way... it's not "delivered" until I sign for it (in my opinion). My condolences to all involved.

Mike - the worst thing is I was't officialy involved in the shipment, i.e. it was picked up by UPS (United Pathethic S**teaters) from Danno in NJ and sent to Chicago, where it was supposed to be delivered to Polamer company which would then send the bass to me via ship (several weeks of waiting but so much cheaper - everyone in Poland seems to be importing gear from USA this way nowadays). UPS managed to get the bass to Chicago where it disappeared. I presume it was stolen from the truck.

If they don't pay the claim... well, I might as well call it a day as far as my attempts to go pro are concerned. I'll have to sell out most of my gear to pay the debts. I would have to do it anyway but I would have an Alembic as my main bass and that's more than enough...

The question now is: Was the package not insured through this freight forwarder (Palomar)? Then they are not responsible for the insured value, as I see the UPS proof of delivery clearly showing receipt in Chicago, ending UPS's liability, unless there was a different arrangement with UPS where they use Palomar as an agent (or sub-contractor) and UPS is responsible through the destination point. I ship a lot of equipment internationally and always make sure that all freight terms are clearly defined prior to actual pickup. If there is no specific UPS liability beyond Chicago and there was no declared value with Palomar, then they are only liable for $100 or $20 per Kilo whichever is higher (according to the 1929 Warsaw Convention which applies to air freight, but ocean freight also has some minimum liability). I’ve done this for too long, got burned a few times but managed to learn the rules of the game.
I'd like to offer my help in resolving this if you'd like, as this should never happen and really angers me as I've seen freight companies try to get out of paying claims if they think the customer may not know enough about freight forwarding, freight terms, etc. Hopefully that’s not the case here.

It never made it off the truck in an official manner. It was not signed for by Palomer. It was insured for the amount specified and Mica sent me a letter of replacement value which was sent to UPS with the documents they requested. They are working on this claim.

UPS does show a delivery and a person's name next to: Signed by. However, they will need to provide proof of delivery and copy of a valid signature, and if they are the carrier through the ultimate destination, then they are liable for the lost value. I'm still not clear on the freight terms.

We are talking about 2 different shipments to the same Polish Freight carrier in Chicago. The first did not get there (5 string Essence) . The second did (5 string Epic). Samooray's bass got there. Basstards did not. I insured the bass. I am the one who will receive the funds from UPS and I will wire the money to Poland to compensate the buyer. The bass in question never made it off the truck officially. You are basing your judgments on the bass that was signed for and the report I posted here to reinforce the message to Samooray. You have not seen the delivery report for the first bass, it was last recorded as on the truck out for delivery. Never made it to the destination in Chicago. So if anyone in Chicago is offered a Vermillion 5 string Alembic in a tweed case. It was stolen off a UPS truck or in a more sinister scenario, bargained for by someone who knew the contents of the package. Some locales have a higher incidence of items falling off of the back of trucks than others. Hence, insurance.

Danno,

I assume the missing bass is the one in the center of the picture at the beginning of this thread. Do you want to post the serial number so people checking the stolen Alembics list will see it? I'm in the Chicago area, so I'll keep an eye out for it as well.

Danno - I'd love an Excel since I like good ash-bodied basses. That combined with Alembic's unparalelled quality and one-of-a-kind electronics must be the best of both worlds. Unfortunatelly, I had to use most of the claim money to pay my debts, and now the US dollar is getting more and more expensive... Plus, my job contract ends at the end of the month and I doubt it gets prolonged. Which means I can shove my dreams of an Alembic bass... well, anywhere. :-(

But, just out of couriosity, do tell: how much would you like for it? I guess much more than $2000 as it was custom-made for you...

That is a ridiculously low price for that beauty! I'd jump on this opportunity in a heartbeat if I could...

Ok Ladies & Gentleman! Hats off! Today I received a heavy wooden case, inside which was my precious Epic. It took so long because shipping to Poland (by sea freight) took 6 weeks, and it was for almost a month in a Custom Office (did I tell you how much I hate such offices?), but finally it's in my home.
A+ for Danno- this package was almost a bullet- proof one ;) THANK YOU

Pictures soon :]

I'd like just to tell you guys how much care Danno had put into packing this Epic:

This is a case that Danno built around cardboard box inside which was an skb case with bas knowing, that this package is going to be shipped by sea freight.

And my face with it:

As much as I would like to take credit, that amazing job was done by the Club Member I bought the bass from. I was merely passing along the fine craftsmanship he created. I never discard great bass boxes.
