Sad to do this, but I decided to cut my basses to one and the Brown Bass is staying.

This is a pretty rare bass IMO: Coco bolo, medium scale, 5 string. It even has the maple layer between the cocobolo and mahogany. Here are some specs:

Build Date: 8/30/90
Model: DMSB5B-Distillate
Serial: 90D6097
Top: Cocobolo w/Maple
Back: Mahogany
Core: Mahogany
Scale: 32" (Medium)
Neck: Maple/Purple Heart (7 Piece)
Veneers: Cocobolo
Finish: High Gloss
Tuners: Gold Gotoh
Inlays: Ovals - Side LED's
Electronics: DSI
Custom Features: 5 String - Cocobolo Top -Side LED's
15 mm spacing at bridge
Two Cases: Custom Calzone Flight Case & Original Alembic Hard Shell Case

The pointer knob is missing. However, I am including custom THG knobs: cocobolo sides, maple lams, and ebony tops.

Awesome condition for its age. I mean really really awesome. A few minute dings and a bump on the butt. A slightly risen fret at the 19th fret that buzzes at the G string only, 18th fret when you have really low action.

I am a bit hesitant about selling it, so I'm aiming a little high maybe. I'm asking for $2,800 + shipping.

Distillate pics are here:

I'll have pics up of the ATA case later.

Me, Devon. poor_nigel and I go back a few years and he knew I was interested in something like this bass, so he was wondering if I had seen the listing and purchased it.

You! Well I wouldn't have sold it to you, even if you were interested!

Just joking of course ;)

The bass was sold to Ray, but has been in USPS limbo since the Tuesday before last...

Well, that's good anyway. If Ray doesn't dig it, he can do a deal with me and I'll just drive down and pick it up. At least it will be in the right corner of the country.

I've very much enjoyed following postings here in alembic land ,and feel a little guilty about not joining in. I was waiting for the bass to arrive to make my grand entrance. But that that happy day is waiting on the US mail. This bass should compliment my SC; brown bass, nicely. Up in till this year I've been playing fenders and regret waiting so long to upgrade. Hopefully it's only a matter of a few more days for the distillate to arrive. Devon has been great to work with. I'll shout when it shows up. Ray.

It did! It finally arrived! 17 days ,and in good shape. barely out of the box not pluged in yet, and I can here the lows allready.the sun's shining and the birds are singing. oh! do I sound releived? it will take a little time to feel at home with with the exta string , but oh poor me, it will be such punishment to have to practice on an instrument, such as this! Ray.

Thanks ; for the good words from every one that posted on this thread. the five string is becoming comfortable and second nature in my hands. I'm using it during gigs more and more as I find where it fits in. the 32"scale and narrow string spaceing is working good for how I'm useing it.In the future I will be looking for an eight string , but two alembics in as meny monhts will do for a wile Be talking else where. thanks again.
