I have a pretty-much-mint '94 Orion baritone guitar which I'm not using (I'm a bass player really, have a Spoiler and Persuader as well as various non-Alembics). If anyone's interested, I'm happy to negotiate a sale. If not, equally happy to hang onto it for a bit longer. I'm UK-based, so would prefer a UK sale, or possibly Europe. Unlikely to be cost-effective to sell it back into the States. Spec: 3-piece maple set neck, flame maple top over mahogany with purpleheart accent veneer, gold tuners & strap buttons, brass bridge/tailpiece, black plastic covers, standard electronics (vol-bass-treble), satin finish. Comes with original paperwork and tools plus a couple of spare sets of strings. I don't have an original case for it but can supply an old hard case or decent gig bag to ship it in. I pack well! I can't see a mark or a ding on it, it can't have been played more than a few hours before I bought it a year ago. I'd like to hope I might get close to GBP1000, but feel free to laugh / set me right / make me an offer. Photo to follow... (Message edited by texangerbil on October 01, 2008) |

Sam, I _might_ be interested in such a trade if I can't sell, but would much prefer the money. You live in a beautiful part of the world by the way - I was in southern VT last fall, but didn't get up as far as Burlington. I'll be in touch in due course if I want to persue this... |

Wow that's a cool guitar, would make a perfect match for my orion guitar. How is that tuned? Can you email me some close up photo's so I can see what condition it is and serial no so I can check the spec with alembic please. I may be interested at the right price, I'm in the west midlands. Jazzyvee: Most people tune a baritone B to B. That's how I've tuned the Orion baritone I recently bought from a club member. It takes a little concentration to wrap my head around the necessary transposing, not to mention the quizzical looks I get from the bass player and other guitar player when they see me playing the "wrong" chords! lol The sound is very cool and very different from the usual guitar sound - half-way between guitar and bass. So far I've incorporated it into one song we're playing - Blind Faith's "Sea of Joy". I'm sure there will be more. If you can swing it, you'd have a lot of fun with it. Bill, tgo |

yep it's currently B to B. Jazzyvee, I'll send you some photos but it may be a day or two. I knew I should have photographed it properly at the weekend when it was sunny! Now I'll have to wrestle with artificial light/flash. |

If you're a bassist, you could also tune it BEADGC like a modern 6-string bass, but tuned up an octave! I tried that with the baritone side of my doubleneck and it totally threw me, so proceed with caution! (o_o;) |

The sun came out today so I took some fresh pictures which I've posted in the showcase at http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/56843.html?1222874273 The flame really comes alive in the sunlight, and I once again find myself appreciating Alembic's craftsmanship, even on such a "standard" instrument. And it really is in showroom condition - the bridge just needs a quick polish, but no dings, nicks or wear of any kind that I can see. I'm in love all over again just looking at it! |

Right, I have now got that Alembic Orion Baritone guitar from Texangerbil yesterday afternoon. Thankfully it is exactly as described, it looks like it's never been played, no scuff marks, or bucklerash, no fret wear, even the matt finish is completely unblemished. (I know from experience with my existing standard Orion guitar that, the matt finish is quite soft and very quickly goes shiny.) I haven't had much of a chance to play it yet but quickly plugged it into my PJB briefcase amp yesterday and it sounded very meaty with an authoritative tone to it. I plan to give it a better check out sometime this week when i have more time. But quickly, would it be better to use it with my guitar amp ( Fender Twin) or via my bass rig? F1-x, SF-2, QSC Power amp, or indeed my mesa boogie walkabout using my Mesa boogie bass cab(s). My intent is to use it mainly for blues. |

I'd go for the fender jazzy. Everything else looks like it would sound too clean and 'hi-fi' for blues. Graeme |

I used to play my former baritone through a fender combo, and it sounded great. If you ever feel like upgrading, another club member switched out the volume, bass, and treble controls for volume, pan, filter, and q-switch on the one I owned, and it really seemed like a nice improvement. Enjoy. |

I've done that upgrade on my other standard Orion guitar and its made a hell of a difference to the sound. That said I have transferred the bass and treble controls to my alembic activated maple strat and it's an awesome arrangement that takes some beating. It's my main guitar for gigging at the moment got reggae. Jazzyvee |
