Hi Claude, The distributor for the Benelux is Edwin van Huik in Hilversum. He often has second-hand Alembics. Here's his site. There's a medium scale Distillate on the list for 2495 euro, which seems a bit pricey. The fretboard is scalloped from the 7th fret - Blackmore/Malmsteen style. That would be a deal-breaker for me. |

With the Malmsteen connection, perhaps fishy scales. |

From the dark recesses of my memory, something like: your fingers are less likely to stick to the fingerboard, especially when sweep-picking or shredding the aforementioned scales. |

John McLaughlin had a guitar with scalloped frets, purportedly to enable sitar-like quarter tone scales during the Mahavishnu Orchestra days. Billy Sheehan's bass has a partially scalloped board as well, maybe 8-10 high frets. (and then my brain exploded from an overload of useless 1970s trivia) |

Thanks, but I don't want a scalloped board. Claude |

not that it matters, but i think the mclaughlin guitar you're talking about was the acoustic he used with shakti. could be wrong, though. |
