What's going on with that neck? Very cool. I don't need another four string. I don't need another . . . That's not working. Will someone buy it so I don't? dw |

I just love the older small standard bodies. If I didn't need the cash to pay for my bass that is on order I would be bidding. So it looks like it is still yours David. :-) Keith |

Okay. Now the "is it here yet?" starts. Taking a bit of a leap on this. think there may be ebony in the neck but not sure. not even sure whether it's a shorty or a medium (39 cm times 2 gets me to a little under 31 in.). But, even worst case, it looks like a great bass. okay. now, back to work. |

Looks like an elusive SI short scale to me. If Alembic did a medium scale on a small body, would they lengthen the neck or move the bridge back? Lengthening the neck would worsen the inherent balance issue with this body style. Anyway... it's a sweet looking bass. If the financial environment were different, I'd go for it. But things being what they are, I don't see any option other than David shelling out the yen and bringing this baby back home. |

A short scale is 30.75 inches. If the anticipation is too much for you feel free to give them my shipping address. Keith |

That's gotta be short scale. I have a similar 77. Congrats - you'll love it! http://music.jeffersoncampervan.com/ |

Thanks, all, for the confirmation. It looked like a short scale to me (which made it more attractive). Was also caught by the neck, which looks like it's the precursor to some of the neck recipes we've been cooking up lately (maybe not ebony, but I think there are two different dark woods). And, the condition seemed awfully good for a 30+ year old bass. May see it in about a week. Yet? . . . Yet? . . . Yet? |

Frank Your SI is beautiful. Did you have it refinished? The cherry is... classy!!! It looks like the PUPs have been updated as well. |

Good for you David. Those little ones are really fun to play! I do not think it is regular ebony in the neck, but possible Macassar ebony - it is a nice dark brown to almost black. Then again, the lighting in the pix are too poor to really tell. Who cares, it looks like a great bass. |

>Your SI is beautiful. Did you have it refinished? The cherry is... classy!!! It looks like the PUPs have been updated as well. Mike- According to Alembic, it was refinished ("the dreaded polance checking incident")& defretted by them in 1977. I have no idea when it was refretted, but the fellow I bought it from did a complete refinishing around 1991. At the same time he ordered from Alembic OEM replacement pickups, bridge, brass string guide, selector switch cover & all new brass screws & gromets. It's a very clean 77 & has no hum/RF interference. In addition, Alembic told me that the original dealer returned it to them "stating the neck was too thin by 1/8" at the nut. There isn't a record of the remedy (none?)". That's just fine by me - the atypical 1 1/2" nut width is the "custom" feature I really like about this bass - and it seems it was considered a "defect" by the original dealer! :-) (Message edited by Yggdrasil on November 07, 2008) |

Wow... 1 1/2" at the nut and short scale. I bet you can motor scooter around on that thing. I have a '77 SI long scale point body. It was overhauled about 3 years ago and it looks brand new. I'd love to have a short scale Series instrument (my Signature SC is my favorite "noodling" bass). |

Cool bass. That neck looks like it has purpleheart in it and not ebony. The outer dark stripes on either side of the neck through the body look like vermillion. You did good. My favorite body style. Michael |

Nice catch. Mica confirmed PH. She thought the dark outside wood probably was walnut, but you may have that right too. The middle is beech. Will post when I get it. dw |

That fretboard looks like Rosewood...? maybe just the lighting in the picture, but it certainly looks lighter/redder than ebony. Beautiful bass- I hope to own an older Series I some day. You snagged a beauty. |
