Hello all,
This is my first post in this forum. I am looking for a second hand Europa or Rogue. 5 String preferred, but I'll consider 6 strings. Let me know what you have by emailing me at el_maracumbeNO!SPAM!@yahoo.com, removing the NO!SPAM! of course.

Thanks,

knight

Hey if you get any leftover 6 string offers I would be very interested. Also, welcome to the site. I am relatively new as well but I have found this place to be welcoming and fun!
My email is bassplaynmatt@mac.com

Thanks, Matt

Right KNIGHT!
Paul's please come over here and welcome this fine new member!
He has a beautiful white horse to ride around the world to help lonely sad looking maids attacked by evil gnomes and monsters
(...oh shit there I go again) ...
but no Alembic (the ULTIMATE weapon on this quest).
DOH!

WELCOME from my side of the pond!
Thi s a great place to be and I sincerely hope you find what you're looking for! Support, sympathy and friendship you'll find anyway: we're the most friendly and sweet bunch of weirdo's on this planet
(fairly good chance even in the universe ...) .

Paul the bad one (now talking to much again instead of doing his job)

Hey Knight,

Welcome to the club!!!! If I see anything in my journeys, I'll certainly let you know.
Hey Paul, I don't know if this is a club or more of a support group for Alembic addicts.

Anyway, welcome to the group!!!

Thanks Dave, but these are a bit out of my monetary league. I'm looking for second hand.

I was assuming from the serial numbers that these basses were used; but after reading your post I went and looked closer and now I'm not so sure. The Europa is a '92; the Rogues are all '97s, including the 4 strings. Interestingly, the serial number for the Europa indicates a Rogue. None of the basses listed on that page are younger than 2000 except the Spyder. The oldest was the '93 Essence. All but one of the Orions was a 2000. It could be that they purchased a lot of Orions in 2000 and a lot of Rogues in 1997 and that those listed are still sitting around unsold. I've never done business with this dealer and have never been to the storefront. Perhaps some one else in the group knows more. At any rate, I don't suppose it could hurt to drop them an email and ask what they want for a six year old bass; unless they sell your email address to a spammer <g>.

I've been to Wash Music a couple of times when in DC, looking at their Stanley Clarke's.
The basses I looked at were all new, but manufactured a few years ago. This is a huge store complex, which seems to be able to combine "boutique" with mass merchandise without compromise (based, admittedly on only an hour or two).I was told that there were "lots more" in the basement - just ask ! :-)I think they have a large Alembic inventory, which they sell at good prices, but don't "blow them out" just because they've been warehoused for a few years.
BTW, my 77 Series 1 was purchased there by the original owner - so they do have a long Alembic history.

I found I got a slightly better price when I was there in person than I received over the net.

Frank.

Thanks Frank. That helps explain the listings on the web site.

Hey Knight,

I live close to Washington Music Center. I'd give them a call and ask for Tim of Todd in Guitars (Todd is the guitar dept manager). They'll work with you on prices and are very fair.

Thanks guys for the info. I actually have been to the WMC, and found many good deals on Ken Smiths (if you're looking for one of these, buy it there! it's true what Frank said about the basement. I could call up any wood combination for the KS I wanted and they'd just get it for me. Price was pretty amazing too).

Guess I'll keep looking, but thanks for your help and don't forget to let me know if you see any of these around!!

Take care,

knight

I bought my pre-owned Europa 5 at Bass Northwest in Seattle (bassnw.com) a little less than a year ago. I had the occasion to go to the actual store 2 weeks ago (I live in CT so this was my first visit) and was talking with them. The individual that I was speaking with indicated that they do get Europas once in a while so it would be worth your while to get in touch with them. My buying expereince was excellent.

Still looking... I also have a F Bass BN5 to trade. Will consider other instruments, such as signature series, etc.

Shakeyeraz (great name by the way, it reminds me of Frank Zappa's "Sheikh Yerbouti") -- do you mind letting me know how much you paid for it? You can email me if you prefer.

But I am not a Buddhist, otherwise I would not want an Alembic in the first place. Rather, I am a southern Italian, prone to seeking immediate satisfaction at the expense of long-term happiness. I feel like buying something else all the time, but I know I'll regret it. In fact, this is how I missed a previous deal. But this time money stays in the bank, and I'll wait... patiently... patiently... argh.

Sorry for the delay - just saw the request for the price. I paid $2000 + shipping, or somewhere about there. I talked to someone at Alembic just prior to buying it - whoever I spoke with implied that the price was reasonable.

I'm waiting for my custom to be complete (see the 'Dreaming' thread), sometime at the end of January. I originally planned to sell my Europa at that time, but I'm thinking now that I'll keep it. If I change my mind, you'll be the first to know. I really think though that I would regret selling it, especially given the price I paid for it.
