I don't think I've ever seen one of these for sale before.

It says it's from the Steve Miller collection- and it's a 5 string.

If my memory serves me, I remember Mica posting that Steve Miller owned one of(if not the only) 5 string Classico they've made.

Flax was selling a classico some time back. I'm not sure if he was ever successful or not though. I would love to play one of these (even though I am a guitar player, and haven't played an upright for more than about ten minutes). There is something about the form of these instruments that I just find irresistible.

Bump

I am thinking real hard about an Alembic #4. This one seems like a great candidate.

What is the resale market for one of these? The price looks to be reasonable eh?

Hey Dave,

I think it would be safe to say that Classicos are rare, and to see a used one for sale is even more so. I know a number of us have been following the construction of a Classico in the factory to customer section, and this has been in progress since July of 2006. Alembic has been reworking some of the features, and I expect the wait time will reduce after these are finished (but I have no real information, just my own speculation). So, if you consider that they are scarce as hen's teeth, and the wait time is not insignificant, I would say that they would fetch a pretty high price, IF the right buyer is interested. I think they are beautiful, and will definitely own one (as soon as I hit the lottery).

Thanks for the input Kevin.

Even used it's a lot of money (to me).

The 5 string thing puts me off a bit. When I play out with a five string and as I go into "auto pilot mode", the low "B" turns into a low "E" about mid gig. I really have to pay attention.

Dave, I've been playing 5 string basses for years and I still do that from time to time. Not nearly as much now as back in the day, (when Jose Cuervo was my only roadie.)Combine that with NO frets and standing on it's end. WHOA!

I play 5 string, upright and fretless just not all at the same time. LOL

I'd love to have this bass but the timing is not right for me. Just can't bring myself to sell any of my other instruments.

OO
