Hello everybody,
I am in desperate search of a Schaller M4 E string tuner(chrome) to replace the broken one on my '77 Series I.
Please note that I am looking for the old style Schaller with the round housing and centered screw position.
I would take a whole set also, and even more a gold set would be the ultimate desire...
Anyone out there willing to show some mercy?
Thanks,
Jürgen

I ran a search for Schaller M4. This was the first hit. Is this it? Or are there different M4s? I was thinking they were hard to come by. The page shows the chrome as out of stock, but the gold as in stock.

Jürgen must be looking for the 1970s version. The current M4 has a small screw tab sticking out from the bottom, whereas on the old ones they're bigger and stick out to the side.

The new style M4s on an Alembic cone peghead usually have half the screw tab sawn off, with the A and D tuners sharing a single screw.

Thanks for your reply. It is indeed the 1970 version I am looking for which seems terribly hard to come by!!! So Dave: what you found is not it unfortunately.
I uploaded a pic of a G string tuner to show what model and what I meant by "centered screw position". These are not available from Schaller anymore since 1978. The only chance is to find someone who is willing to help with a spare old one out of a forgotten drawer...

Hi, I search one too, but they sell only 4... except...... drumroll....

Soundland 70736 Fellbach I ask and they had one for me but I had to order a larger price for them to care. So I forgot, mine is still broken but working as well. (one of the two upper part is broken) I hope they still have that for you.

Thanks for the hint.
I called up Soundland but they just have the recent style with the mounting screw sideways ...which is the crucial alteration. Still looking...

Yes, I knew that, and just completely forgot.

So, read through this thread from six years ago. It may be of some help.

Attmann - I have one, but it is gold.

If I am not mistaken, the Gotoh's that Alembic use now will bolt right up to the older screw pattern.

Hello Dela - I would be just so happy to buy the whole set from you since in my opinion a golden set would be a much better match to the luxurious look of my beautiful SeriesI. You name the price...
Let me know.

Hello Dela - I hope I did not misinterprete your statement that "you had one". Was there an offer implied or not? Please let me know. Thanks, Jürgen

Sorry, I have been away from the computer.

I really only have one! You are welcome to it if you want, but then you would not have a matched set.

Hello Michael(Dela) - No problem, I was checking only every 5 minutes frequently, if you had posted a reply...Thanks for coming back!!!
Now I understand. That single golden tuner surrounded by silvery mates would indeed be a very special look. But on the other hand: I thought about having the chrome guys gold plated as plan B anyways. So basically if you are willing to sell the tuner - and if it fits the E position - I would still be happy to buy it from you, yes yes yes...

I feel like such a fool. You did say it was for the E side. The tuner I have is exactly like the one you have pictured. For the D/G side. The search is still on.

Michael
