The Marshall VBA400 is the ultimate all-tube power bass head for hard rock/heavy metal/stoner rock. My gigs now call for 200 watts/single 15, which is to say, I've quit playing powered-out rock. You want to do that, though, you can't beat this Marshall. Price: $1100 JPEGs available (the "upload" button didn't acutate to let me post pics). The head is in mint condition w/custom padded cover. The power section is eight 6550 power tubes (Ampeg SVTs have six)! The amp has input gain plus master volume, so you don't have to crank it super loud to get overdriven tone. I've owned an SVT, and the sounds of the amps are comparable. The Marshall gets a better clean tone if you want it, the Ampeg is more pure midrange raunch. This head weighs about 80 pounds. The Marshall is a great-sounding bass head for rock, metal, alternative, blues, etc. It plays jazz and funk OK, but that's not its selling point. It's more versatile than the Ampeg SVT. If you're a bass player considering buying an SVT head, you owe it to yourself to try the VBA400 first. Located in San Diego, CA, I **strongly** prefer a local sale. I do have the original box and packing, but it's SO expensive and difficult to ship big heavy stuff. Consider partial trade for a Mesa/Boogie Powerhouse 2x12 cabinet with the full Player Control Network (that is, the more recent version). Thank you. | |||
