I was planning on bidding, and letting the Elan slide by. But it's a little scary that the guy has no feedback.

This is a fantastic bass- the Signature setup is awesome and the BTC coco bolo is beautiful.

Did you notice the note at the bottom of the auction?
"***This bass is available for sale locally in the San Francisco Bay Area only*** Pick it up in person."

Do you have a SF based friend who could get it for you or would you make a flight out to pick up the bass?

I've been watching this all week and figuring there's no way I could grab it. Got home from a gig last night, shuffled some numbers and popped in a bid and much to my surprise...
I'll never need the extra set of electronics but I'm loving the look and a Rogue has been on my perv list for some time. I think I did okay.

I just spoke to the seller and it's shipping this morning as I write.

Come to papa.....!

Congratulations! That's a mighty fine looking bass. Let us know how it looks in person when you get it.

Congrats! I've been watching this one too. The seller is a 20 min. drive away for me, but I'm pretty committed to playing a 5er. Nice that he's got it off to you right away. I'm guessing the pics don't do it justice. Hope it's all that and more! File us a report when you are able to put it down :-)

Thanks all! I'm pretty excited about it. I only said I wouldn't need the extra electronics because I am my own roadie and I'm already maxed out with one amp/cabinet as it is. I'd love to be able to split each pickup into its own amp, but I'm afraid my knees won't go for it! Something to dream about....
The seller was very accomodating indeed - he took it to a UPS store for packing and shipping and called me with the exact amount for approval (man, those guys really bang you pretty good!!Yeow..). Then he sent me an adjusted invoice after it was done - I hadn't even paid him yet!!! That man is a class act for sure.

I will put up pics and a report as soon as I can put it through its paces. Hopefully I can get it by Friday and gig it over the weekend. I am very psyched indeed!!

Will; I don't think it's stereo, so you don't have to worry about carrying around an extra amp. It should be just like your MK, but with the addition of bass and treble boost/cut switches for each pickup. The seller's statement about two preamps probably refers to the two built-in preamps that come in the electronics package, one for each pickup.

Dave, you are correct. His wording led me to believe it to be stereo but in fact it is not. He clarified the layout for me in an email I received this morning and it is exactly as you describe, standard Signature with the addition of 2 switches for each pickup.
I'm kind of relieved - having a stereo option on a bass like this and not using it would eventually force me to do something my back would not appreciate! This is much more manageable.
I'm not much of a tone tweaker - I look for a good solid, defined tone and pretty much stick with it. I rarely use the Q's on the MK because it already sounds so good!
I am anxious to explore the extra tweaks this one offers. Thanks for clarification Dave.

Wow, neat electronics - I speculate: each pickup has switches for bass cut/boost, treble cut/boost, Q shape. Each pickup has a filter control. Then in addition there's a volume knob and a pan knob. And a side mounted jack to boot! Awesome, let us know if that's really what it is. Sweet, sweet bass!

You're going to have fun with this bass. I am a previous owner of the Signature+ equipped Rogue that Loch just sold in the For Sale section. That bass had signature electronics with a single set of bass/treble switches. Those two switches added a lot to the tonal palette of that bass- I can't imagine what options you'll have by having a set for each pickup.

It's sort of a unique twist on the East meets West control layout- have fun with it and let us know how you like it.

If I played a 5er that one would've been grabbed on the first post. A real beauty for sure and I looked at it for a long time thinking maybe that was the one to expand with.
It's great that I'll have all this flexibility I'm sure. Maybe you can help me here:

Can someone tell me the frequency points of the treble and bass boost/cut switches? I understand that they're standard - is this correct? Thanks.

Will; I don't recall seeing that posted before, but my guess would be 100Hz and 5KHz.

Thanks Dave. I looked around the Forum and didn't come across it - ditto the website. I was just curious to know what Alembic considered desirable points of emphasis (and de-emphasis for that matter).

It's finally here!! Got it last night safe and sound. First impression - wow! I tuned it up and played it for 20 minutes to check everything out and it all works perfectly (the seller also threw in a new battery - always a considerate touch). Condition is really really good - not pristine but I didn't expect that. Some honest player wear (that you can only see when you're right up on it) and no abuse is more than fine for a 10 year old bass. The back is nearly perfect - no rash at all and no dings, neck too. The matching headstock veneers are also pristine. Eventually a G&P for the frets, but right now it's not an issue. Except for playing the daylights out of it (for about 5 years, then he says he put it in storage-other priorities) he kept it in excellent shape.

I spent the next 2 hours going over it, treating/cleaning the board and frets etc. Eventually I'll take the bridge off for a Flitz job, but right now it'll hold while I enjoy it. New strings, tweaked setup and intonation. Sounds wonderful in my 8" practice amp and I've found that if a bass sounds really good in there it rocks in the regular rig. I am very anxious to gig it this weekend. Now I'm off for home to spend the rest of the evening enjoying it.

So here it is. I am very happy! I'll try to get some better pictures for the Showcase.

Thanks guys! I'm really liking it a lot. Gave it one more tweak after it settled in with the new strings and now it plays beautifully. Road test tomorrow.

Let me guess:

Volume + Pan + [Neck Low boost/cut, High Boost/cut, Filter and Q switch] + [Bridge Low boost/cut, High Boost/cut, Filter and Q switch]?

Well, I gigged this bass twice this weekend and quite frankly I couldn't put it down. I am very very happy with it. By the secong gig (which was outdoors) I had numerous comments regarding the tone from my 4 musician bandmates (3 of which I've been playing with for 20+ years, the 4th for 15, and are very familiar with my rotating instrument selections). In a word - wow! The keyboard player in particular, who sets up on the other side of the drummer, told me that he could hear the clarity and tone of every note (including the clams I'm sure!).
Anyway, this bass is a beauty in every way. Did I mention I'm really happy? I'm really happy!!!

Like I said before - I have a wide selection of excellent basses to choose from, but the Alembics stand alone.
