Hi there Alembic fans. I was watching an Alembic Rogue 6 String (Vermillion wood finish) on Ebay UK.(Look it up yourself by putting item no. 180408481420 into the SEARCH on Ebay.co.uk.) The auction finished about 20.00 (British Summer Time - GMT+1)yesterday 27Sept. 2009. The asking price was a bargain at £1,500 pounds Sterling (equivalent to about €1,667 Euro or $2,383 US Dollars). This was a real bargain price for a bass model which is now quoted at $9,100 new on the Alembic price list.I expected that there would be great interest in such a beautiful instrument, especially amongst European players, for whom the fact that the bass was located in the UK would mean no import duty to pay if imported into another EU state. SURPRISINGLY, THERE WAS NOT A SINGLE OFFER AND NO LAST MINUTE FLURRY OF ACTIVITY FROM AUCTION SNIPERS !. Can anyone hazard a guess as to the apparent lack of demand. Is it the generally recessionary times that we're in ? Or is it that selling a 6-string bass is considerably more difficult proposition than selling a 5-string (most 4-string bassists will easily chance a 5-string, but will shy away from the challenge presented by a 6-string.) A friend of mine who is a professional full-time bassist (and a very accomplished player) recently bought a beautiful 7-string bass (not an Alembic) but found, after about two weeks trying, that he was unhappy with the demands that this bass was making on his skill and decided to terminate the experiment ! Comments please | :-) |

I would love to experiment with that 6-stringer, Here is a link to the auction to make things easy. |

Looks like a nice bass. I have a six-string Essence myself and would love to upgrade to something with purpleheart or ebony stringers, better electronics and [the holy grail!] some LEDs. I'd prefer something in the US, but that wouldn't have kept me from bidding on the bass. I'm not a real fan of the Rogue shape and, yes, money is a bit tight right now. |

I don't follow prices as closely as other people here. To me the price appears to be in the normal range I would expect for Europe and this model bass. The one thing about Alembic basses is they drop in price quite a bit from the original sales price. Once they have done that they usually keep their used price value quite well. Keith |

I tend to agree with Kevin; I would have expected this bass to have drawn a much higher price. This may have just been timing rather than entirely an effect of the economy. The seller should relist; and I don't think he should lower the price. Personally, I don't care for gig bags; so if I were in the market for a Rogue, I would factor in the cost and trouble of getting a custom fit hard case for the bass. |
