Hey, all
Some of you may remember reading a few weeks back that I was preparing to unload my Small Standards to pay for a new truck. I test-drove something promising this afternoon, but will need $6500 plus taxes and fees to make the deal work.
I've read here recently that a few members' dream bass is a six-string Series 2, which is the bass I was going to keep, but am thinking about selling to pay for this truck.
Serial number is 95 9100; it's a long-scale Standard Point with crown headstock in lightly flamed walnut. The neck has the comfort taper, and is thin and flat. The weight is about 15 pounds. It has some mild fret sprout, and there is a hairline crack in the center of the fretboard under the 23rd and 24th frets. Otherwise, it's perfect. The bass sets up well and plays great with surprisingly low action. There is some buzz when I play at home, but never noticed any strange noises at a rehearsal or on a gig.
It came to me in an A&S Cases flight case, and I would include a new-ish Alembic cord and one of my 1982 Blue Boxes. It's currently strung with a new set of medium-gauge DR High Beams and will come with a spare set.
I am asking $7500 plus shipping. Any takers? I will be leaving this up through the weekend, and then pulling this ad to sell my Small Standards instead.
Feel free to e-mail for pics, and with any questions you may have.

Maybe a millimeter, maybe less. Enough to feel, but not to cut your hand while you play.

Tell me about it. :-(
For the record, it's looking like this one will be living at Otis' house before much longer. Somebody help us both out and bid high on his Epic 6, please.

More like 1 a.m. as I remember it. Nice meeting you and your Pop. Can't wait to hear what she does in your hands.

Shawn, I was slightly delirious- so I'm sure you're more right about the time than I was. It was great meeting you, as well. I was able to practice with her, yesterday, and my drummer was like, "Oh, my God, now I can hear everything you're doing. Holy sh#*- you're making a lot of mistakes. But the sound is fantastic!" And this through my Kustom 2X15's- I can't imagine what she's going to sound like through my 4X10's!

He's right- the tone of this bass is nothing short of amazing- it cuts right through everything with such power and clarity, it's even more amazing than the 1977 Series I 4 I used to own, and that bass was no slouch. I'm so glad we didn't record, yet!

This bass feels perfect in my hands, and I know it's going to be an extension of them in a way I was never quite able to attain, with my other Alembics (both awesome basses, but... well, you know- no comparison between a S2 and anything else!)

I will post some pics as soon as I can manage to put it down and take some- my digital camera is broken, so I'll see what I can do with my iPhone... We'll see;)

And Shawn, you were absolutely right- the flight case is godawful heavy! The strap you gave me works great with it, but I was so excited to strap it on, I put it on backwards, at first! My drummer noticed after a song or two, and when I switched it, it balanced perfect!

Frank
