...it "pains" me more if I DON'T offer up for sale to the Club - the stunning, controversial, historic, ultra-custom, Series I/II Alembic Serial# 76AC070.

Before you jump to conclusions (there goes Chris, again - selling his bass for the umpteenth time), there really IS a reason this time. It has multiple parts, so here goes:

1. Rosie won't let me keep more than one bass because of my rather "expensive" tastes. :>)

2. I'm one of those very fortunate few who (at the age of 55) still gets to play EVERY weekend.

3. 76AC070 weighs-in at a "hefty" 11.8 pounds. But, MAN! - does that weight ever pay off in stunning, earth-shaking sound!!

4. At my age - and with my back and shoulder problems - I'm FORCED to go to something somewhat lighter.

So, before I go and put her on consignment (the bass, NOT Rosie!) down the road at Bass Central - albeit, at a price point that will be AT LEAST 20% higher than what I'm offering to Club Members - I figured I'd give everyone a chance to own what has been my "third arm" for many years (get your mind out of the gutter - not THAT third arm!).

:>0

Here it is - the first person who offers me $5,000.00 gets to own one of the nicest basses ever built by the good folks at Alembic. $5K - that's less than 20% of the cost to have this bass duplicated today - IF you could have it duplicated. Which you can't because there are materials used in the construction that you simply can not use anymore (like REAL Ivory).

Do a search on the Boards for 76AC070 and you can follow some of the "history".

For anyone who would like pics, I can take some and send them directly via PM.

Feel free to contact me directly at: crgny@comcast.net

I really do hope that someone here takes me up on this offer as I would like to see a Club Member enjoy her for as long as I have.

FYI - When she sells this time, there will be no caveat of "I'll buy it back from you if you ever decide to sell it." For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, that was my "mantra" each of the two times that the bass has been sold before.

Be well, everybody!

WOW!! Greg, you found that QUICK!

Thanks for the compliment - she is that, and more.

Unfortunately, the difference of about three pounds on my shoulder for 10 hours per weekend has really begun taking its toll. Hence, the decision to sell.

Not to be rude or boastful, but I really don't need the $ - it is all about Rosie (correctly) stating that I can't play more than one bass at a time, and if I continue with the rather pricey ones, I can only keep one at a time.

I have my eye on a headless Status MK Artist - weighs in at about 8 pounds! That's where the money will be going.

Figured I'd add the pic that Greg found so that you don't have to make the "extra effort" of following the link!

I've been gawking at that bass on the Internet for 10 years, and right when I decide to pare down and get out of the business, you get serious about selling it? Pure evil, I say...

Chris,
Today was unusually nice...sunny and fair enough to work outside all afternoon in shirtsleeves, rather than overcast, gray and generally leaden and chilly like it's been most every recent day. The leaves are pretty good this year, but their color seemed to peak early. It's cold at night.
We were down near Orlando for a week in August. Still don't like it. ;) Hope it's more amenable to you than it was to us...we learned the hard way that the baby is allergic to your state bird, the Pterodactyl Mosquito.

Hey Kenn. Anything bad that could happen, did. But, they can't keep ya down forever. I was going to wait until I moved back to CA to join the club, again, but this bass brought me back early. I work nights now, so need more sleep . . . .

I think that she is headed off to Hong Kong, but I have recently "lost touch" with the prospective purchaser.

With that said, there is a short line of "suitors" who I will get in touch with as the day(s) goes on. One way or another (not Blondie), she will find a new home.

ALTHOUGH, Rosie - much to my astonishment - said last night "why don't you just KEEP the Alembic and simply go buy another, lighter bass?"

Needless to say, once the paramedics revived me and the hospital finished their "looks like a heart-attack" scans (finding nothing, of course), I told her that I wanted someone else to get as much enjoyment from the bass as I have over the years. In addition, the bass will still be here long after I'm gone, so why hoard the pleasure?

You lucky dog. Appreciate that beautiful instrument in good health for many years.

I am now going to bang my head repeatedly on something very hard and very substantial while cursing my poverty.

Thanks Hal, Greg and Paul,

Yep, figure that I should play a bass like this while I am still young and fit enough to get away with the 12 extra pounds (of bass). It looks so great in the photos, can't wait to hear and play it.

Chris, I'm sure there is some great kama coming your way for choosing to share this bass with me as the next owner. I'm quite sure that I will also play it until my back finally gives in and I am forced to go lighter.

Been without my beloved 78 coco series one for about a month now (Alembic repairing the PF-6 card) and I now know that having only one Alembic is not ideal when you are as addicted as I am. I'm selling my PRS bass (serial number 50) and my MV Pedulla - won't need these as backup anymore. Can't say that I will miss them, eventually perhaps all my instruments will be Series 1 or 2 Alembics...

Jeez, that's at least three of us Alembic players who own PRS basses. Always thought I was the only one whose taste included these two breeds.

Wow, wow, wow.

Only trouble now is leaving the house...

You finally have it. Welcome to the real world. That's a baddass bass. I was going to get it if you didn't claim it first. I would never go after something I know someone else had already started biding on...

After I knew it was you, I was even more happy for your. That's a very unique shape for a bass, and I lover the horns and that neck is beautiful. I don't believe there's anything like it on the planet, and best of all, its yours.

I know dog-on well, you'll be old and gray with that bass. Don't forget to hook up with Flip's registry and a nice year book photo of that gorgeous bass Garth. That's my kind of bass you have my man.

Pictures now posted in the showcase section under custom basses. Think I am going to have to get a refinish on the 78 cocobolo just so that she doesn't end up as the ugly step sister.
