Wandered into Guitar Center here in Nashville on Saturday to find a used Essence, $1995 w/case. Will go back and get the serial number, but I believe it started with 94. In clear gloss, which has slightly yellowed handsomely. Plain maple top, pinstripe separator to an ash back. Through-maple neck with pinstripe dividers. 'V' headstock, 2 + 2. Adj. brass nut and bridge and logo need the usual brightening, but not more than that. Dead straight neck, no dots or ovals. Standard electronic package, MXY x 2, vol, fader, loPass filter, front jack. Black plastic battery door and compartment door. Gold keys. Overall pretty ding free, no feelable dents or bad scratches. I'll go back Monday and get the serial number and try to see the case, and get a contact name. In the meantime, it's (615)297-7770. If there's any specific questions, let me know. J o e y |

"V" headstock!! Really?? It sounds like a typical Essence for the period except for the headstock, which I think would have to be a custom order. The only other thing I would mention is that most Essences of that period had Maple bodies, so Ash would be a bit of a departure as well. |

I've been caught out: It's a Cone 4 peghead, Dave. I always think of that shape from a Flying V, not realizing (till now) that in Alembic-ese, the 'V' head shape is the V-shape from the original Gibson Explorer. SO . . . it's the typical Essence with a Cone 4 peghead. Thanks, Dave ! The backside LOOKS like Ash, but that's why I'll go get the serial # tomorrow, so it can be nailed down. J o e y |

OK, I just came back from Guitar Center. The serial is 94K8468USA; I'm sure Mica could pull up the whens and whats on this particular Essence. According to my friend Rick Taylor, one of the floor managers (and a bass player himself), it has the original case, though I didn't see it. And I think it probably is all maple and not Ash wings. Rick's good people, and it's a nice axe. You can contact him at (615)297-7770, or EMail at nashbuzz@yahoo.com. Anytime there's a used Alembic 'round here, I always try and go see it and let everybody know what I found so you won't have to take 'their' word for it. Nothing worse than buying something 'cross country and it's NOT as represented. BTW, tell Rick it'd be a deal IF he puts new strings on it! J o e y |
