I really like my recently acquired Alembic '86 Spoiler (its in the showcase section) - the quality is so much higher than on any other bass I own (and I am fortunate to own some nice basses, esp my 72 Precision and Nash 63 Jazz). Am so impressed that I would like an Alembic 5'er to complement my Fender(alike) 4 stringers and would be able to offer a trade involving one or both of my virtually-brand new Gibson Thunderbird (vintage sunburst; worth c.£900) and/or my Fender '76 Precision fretless (sunburst, rosewood, near-mint; worth c.£1,500), depending whats on offer. Not really looking to add cash as all spent out. I would ideally like a maple-topped Spoiler 5, the double of my 4 string Spoiler. Failing that an Essence or MK or Epic 5'er. Sacrilege to say on this site, but I am not overly keen on certain Alembic shapes, especially the long horned ones (eg, Orion, Rogue) or the small-bodied, short scale Stanley Clarke model. Medium or long-scale but not short-scale please. As I am in London, UK this would be tons easier if the other party was in the UK too. Let me know guys and gals! |

Update: I have sold my Thunderbird separately, hence I have a near-mint sunburst '76 fretless Precision to trade only now. I also have a black Spoiler 4 string coming in! I have narrowed down what I want on the 5 string front which is a nice rich cocobolo-fronted Essence or Orion (ignore what I wrote above although I prefer the Orion's with the Spoiler/Epic shaped headstock). Annoyingly I was just outbid on eBay for a cocobolo Orion that exactly matched what I was looking for. |

Here's a pic of my fretless (I bought it from Vintage and Rare in London, who bizarrely still have the listing on their website despite me buying it three months ago). This does show the amazing condition its in for a 34 year old bass. I did not pay the listed price and thus value this in a trade at £1500. Ideally want to trade for cocobolo fronted 5 string Alembic, as described above.
