$4200 is really high for a Europa, especially for an opening bid. There's no strings on it in the photos. Wonder if he'll charge extra for them? |

You can never generalize about price based upon model name because there are so many options. In this case, 6 strings, an extra long scale and a "deluxe" neck configuration. Not sure if the flamed walnut was an upcharge. Admittedly, it could have been bought for around $4200 when it was ordered, but I don't think it's an outrageous price in today's market. That's especially true if you're a buyer looking for the rarity of a 36" scale six string. |

That's way high. I was able to pick up 2 "custom" Europa Six's (one Emerald Green with Chrome Hardware, and the other with slightly different electronics, a flame walnut top, Crown Headstock, and Large Standard Body) for less than half that for the green one, and slightly more than half on the walnut one. Come to think of it, BOTH of my Europa 6's, which were more custom than that one, came to about $4200, altogether, for BOTH. Not a good deal. The 36" Scale isn't that big of a deal- at least I haven't heard that many people on the Club talking about it like its the "dream" option. I don't think the Flame Walnut Top is that much of a Custom Option, either- I'd be surprised if it added $500 to the overall price. It actually looks more like an Elan, from the headstock. Bottom line, the bass was easily worth that, new, but it's now 15 years old, and not nearly as custom as some of the Alembics I've seen on eBay, for around the same price. Definitely overpriced. If it were $3200, or even $3500, I could see that, but $4200 seems a bit pricey. It is less than the Elan 6 we just saw on eBay for $7500, though!!! Doesn't look very custom to me. Beautiful bass, though! Peace All;) Frank (Message edited by otis on June 01, 2010) |

Betcha there's no strings on it because finding the right set of strings for a 36" 6'er is extremely difficult. Even at juststrings.com most of the extra long sets are wound for 35" |

Finding 36" strings isn't that hard. AFAIK, most DR sets will accommodate that scale length and if the tailpiece takes it over the edge, they will certainly make some that will fit. All standard endorsee disclaimers apply. YMMV, etc. |
