Andy; this bass was sold. And the seller's email address is no longer current. Generally, electronics upgrades are done on Series basses because the older ones can tend to be noisy when interference is present in the air. There is a lot more going on in the air these days than when these basses were originally built. So the only "change" is they are quieter. The amount of noise varies from bass to bass. So if you notice that your '80 short scale Series I gets kinda noisy when playing at a certain club, you may want to consider the upgrade. But if you just use it in your studio work and there is no noise problem, then you may not need it. I think the price probably varies from bass to bass depending on the amount of calibration that needs to be done. But my guess is that you might figure on at least a grand US, probably more (plus shipping and insurance from Australia). If you are thinking about an upgrade, I'm guessing it would probably be best if you spoke with Mica about it; I could be completely wrong about all this. Just trying to help as best I can. Someone with more techinical expertise may be able to explain the types of interference we're talking about here. Actually, as I recall, it's been discussed before; you may be able to find it with a good search. | ||

Thanks Dave, that's a big help. I do use the Alembic in my studio but it is prone to noise there as well from the amount of computer gear and buried wiring from the video edit suites (5) in the building. My room is also right above the machine room where all of the CPUs and hardware for the building lives. Bzzz. -Andy |
