I've been to bass world and they seem very knowledgeable but I don't know if they fiddle about with basses as well as sell them. You could always try John Diggins at Jaydee Custom guitars in Brum. I've used him for years to do stuff on my guitars. If people think a good luthier is sufficient to install upgraded electronics, I would probably use the Bass Gallery in Camden, London (who make the highly recommended Sei custom basses)
