Check out this nice looking bass on EBay. I am interested in why it is a copy? Maybe an employee shop nighter? Dave http://cgi.ebay.com/ALEMBIC-SERIES-1-COPY-/220699566517?pt=Guitar&hash=item3362b821b5 |

hmmm...you got me...interesting power supply, is that homemade or a modded DS-5? It's priced like a 'real' one. |

the wood looks more like something Alembic would use than say Fernandez. The figure reminds me of my old 77 schedua series 1 guitar. I know fernandez used alot of zebra wood on their Alembic copies, but this is the first time I've seen such a close copy with such a nice top/ back |

the only thing that looks off to me is the shaping of the upper horn/cutaway. other than that, i don't see any glaring differences. |

Unusual placement of the pickup selector switch. |

Another mystery. We've been getting a lot of those recently. The listing is a bit light on detail. |

I think it is not a "Ferbic" (Alembic copy by Fernandes). I have never seen a ebony fingerboard on Ferbic. Maybe Ferbic's tuners are Goto made, because not fitted for schaller. Unusual PU selector means someone's intention. We needs more details (S/N etc...). But the bass is Alembic made that I think. Eiji |

If Alembic made, the battery cover looks different. Are there any others out there that look like that? If not Alembic made, it is pretty nice, nicer than a Fernandes. |

I've written to the seller to try and get some more detailed explanation of the origins of this bass. |

Scary, if that's a copy. I wonder how many Alembicians would be able to tell the difference. |

I've been in email contact with this seller trying sort out the identity of this instrument. There's more than one thing that stands out to me as non-standard, but I'm waiting for more details. One clarification is that his customer claims he made all the parts he didn't buy from us. The listing was edited to state the hardware and electronics are from Alembic, but I haven't seen what's under the hood yet. So at least any potential buyers are getting a little more of the story before purchasing. |

It's still purty! I appreciate the fact that it was listed right up front as a copy, too. |
