Folks, this Spoiler 5 with Epic electronics is on eBay, and is located about 2 miles from my house. Here's the eBay link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Alembic-5-String-Bass-Guitar-/360333566383?pt=Guitar&hash=item53e58de1af#ht_2805wt_907

I had the opportunity to check it out, and it's in relatively good condition, but will need to be cleaned up (e.g., brass polished, body polished, etc.). Top appears to be walnut, with a maple accent laminate and mahogany core. Neck is the usual maple/walnut pinstripe arrangement. Neck appears straight as well. I played it without an amp, and it will definitely need new strings - the ones on it now are dead, dead, and gone. There are some nicks and dings, but nothing out of the usual you'd expect. And I think this is a '90, not a '99 - at least that's what it looked like to me. Oh, and a couple of control plate screws are missing as well.

BTW, the folks at the pawnshop knew next to nothing about the instrument - big surprise there, huh? ;-)

Hope a club member gets it.

Do you happen to remember how much they were asking?

The OW in the serial number makes it an Orion, with a Spoiler body. That makes it 1996 at the earliest. Also, a Spoiler would be neck-through, so in this case the model name is somewhat inaccurate - though understandably so.

And that was another round in our increasingly popular game of - Name that Alembic!

I stand corrected! An Orion it is! ;-)

Not sure what they're asking for it. It does have what looks to be the original case, which is is in decent shape as well. Right now it's above a grand on eBay.
