A member of the John Entwistle Foundation contacted me some time ago inquiring as to whether I could supply them with a tracing of the body of my Custom Series II Exploiter. Apparently, they were working with Dean to create what you see in the link above, and wanted to get the body right. I had some reservations, not knowing whether Alembic had a patent on the body, etc., and told them I'd like to speak to a lawyer about it before saying yes or no, which I did. I also talked to Mica, who told me it was no problem and in fact suggested that they contact Alembic directly and they would give them the template.
I emailed the contact back, but never heard anything from them.

Apparently, the proceeds from sales of this instrument will go to the foundation (or at least a portion of it). Or so I was told, anyway. If that's the case I think that Dean is doing a good deed here.

Looking at this instrument, the body shape is similar to mine, but not exact. Notably, the upper horn appears to move towards the headstock at a more acute angle than it does on my instrument. And of course there are other differences (woods, inlays, electronics, hardware, etc.).

Overall, I think they did a good job with it. I'd love to play one for comparison's sake. Given the fact that there will only be 25 of them made I doubt I'll ever get the chance, though.

Alan
