My name is Ed Swiger and I am a tone-aholic. I have been playing for over 20 years and thought I had a pretty good handle in what I thought tone was. I was wrong. I have gone through a lot of gear in my quest for the tone I hear in my head, wasted lots of cash. My rigs have run the gamut, from small solid state and tube combos (from Peavey to Mesa Boogie) to monster outdoor show ones (4 Ampeg 8x10's, 2 1x18 subs, 2 1x15 subs, 1600 watts in the late 80's). My discovery has finally brought me to my present set up, my Mesa 400+/1516BE live rig, my Mesa Venture practice rig and my first Alembic. I got her from an Alembic club member, Jim Viner (AKA Jimbobv). A 1990 Elan Plus 4 in what I have to say is the best burst I have ever seen. She is a rescue as shown here-(http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/23775.html?1145069176). The front, back of not only the body and the head stock, but the back of the neck as well! Unheard of commitment to the art of instrument making. This bass has opened my eyes to what tone really is. I assure you, this will not be my last Alembic. My new obsession!

I too have an Elan Plus and they are seriously great sounding and playing basses. I would be very interested in a report back after your first gig with it.

Hey Edward, welcome to the club & to the family of proud Alembic owners! You have a beautiful bass, congratulations! I too had thought I found the sound I was looking for a couple of years ago when I bought my Eden amp. My Jazz bass sounded great through it. At least I THOUGHT my Jazz bass sounded great through it until I got my Stanley Clarke Signature Deluxe in February. There is NO comparison! The Alembic has opened my ears & mind to tones I never knew existed! You are going to love tour Elan more & more each day as you discover all the possibilities with the amazing electronics that Alembic builds. Enjoy!!
