Another lover of Elans. You are in great company here. Some of us just love those bodies. What kind of music are you playing?

I look forward to the pictures.

I'm a jack of all trades, but a master of none.I play rock, funk, and prog mostly.I'm an agressive slapper(ala Mark King ,just not as awesome ) and I am up front an busy (my inner Geddy) in my playing.Eugene is a blues town (the Blues Brothers was dreamed up here while filming Animal House)so I have been knwn to dabble in the blues.Like most bass players my tastes are ecclectic and wide ranging=).

New strings and a few adjustments (don't have a tool for the truss rods yet ,but she only needs a small tweek.....she is lovely after all).MY GOD......I LOVE THIS BASS!And she is only an "entry" model (no sarcasm intended).Truelly a work of art.Emminance Front has never sounded so good.Even though they didn't build it for me,thank you, thank you, and again thank you Alembic!

Hi Steve, and welcome.Nice to see somebody from the neighberhood.Alembics are a wonderful thing, and I know your joy.Presently I'm not in a band , and have had a long hiatus from the scene(work conflicts with gigging).Who knows,I'll keep my options open.Be sure to post pics in the showcase(the porn shop for bassists!).Mine is under the Elan section.Look for red flame maple.Congrats again,Karl

My observations so far,.....I LOVE MY ELAN!!!!! I can pretty much dial up any sound I want now without a lot of knob twisting. For finger style this is thee bass for me now.I'm still leaning towards my HH Stingray for slapping, but am finding some sounds w/my Elan that are truely sweet and not possible with my other bass. Each voice has its place. Its not that the Elan doesn't have a good slap sound,it blows most basses away.Stingrays are just hard to duplicate.

Wishbass,

I agree with you. My Alembic SCSD is my go-to bass for almost everything, but I still got the itch for a Stingray...just bought one of the classic re-issues. Awesome slap machine! (The SCSD slap sound is nothing to sneeze at, though...it's right up there, too.) I've been debating going after an HH as well...

I love my HH Stingray. I went through all the MM's, Sterlings,Stingrays,Bongos....for me the HH had it all , esp. With the pup switch. The neck was fast, the balance perfect.I had a Fender Jazz, and after getting the Stingray,I found I never seemed to need it.Don't get me wrong,I love the Fender sound, but I had a hard time getting away from it,and in this town everyone has a J or P(preferably old and beat up,at least in appearance.Blues players!Sheesh.)The Stingray gave me more voices(the HH anyway) and was a natural progression to my true white whale .....my Alembic. Now I can dream about my call to Will Gunn to order a custom build........
