Hi guys and girls. I've been on here for a while and just found this, so I'll tell you about me. Alembic was my first dream bass, not because of Stanley Clark or mark king. Because of Jason newsted. When I was 14 I discovered him and because of a frustrated youth I listened to metallica a lot then. I started playing bass and thought "they must use the best stuff because they can pick any gear they want." it took about a year to figure out what symbol was on Jason's basses and about 5 more years of saving allowance to get an Elan 5, but I did it. I played in a few bands with my ampeg/Alembic rock star rig with a rack and blah blah, long hair the whole package. It didn't take long to figure out that Metallica weren't that good but I always had a special spot for Alembics. All of that was a lifetime ago. I'm 32 now I'm a single dad (but engaged) with another on the way. I spent my 20's fighting for. custody of my daughter and after 6 years and $20k I got her! Now I have the Elan 5,a spoiler4, and a Europa 4. Inspired by none other than mr. Newsted himself. I've played guitar for 11 years or so now. I write music when I have time but with an 8 year old a pregnant fiancé school and work there isn't a lot of time. When I do write music I write much more complex than Metallica and I think it bares no resemblence to anything Metallica or Jason newsted have done but I still love Alembic's! I'm looking for Europa 5and6 string basses to complete my collection Thanks for looking and any help with the gear is greatly appreciated! I've. Nerded out and know all of the options Jason had on his basses. It was fun to learn but I'm really past that. I'm my own person and I don't want 10 series 2 europa basses... Maybe 1 but I want to do my own thing with these great instruments! Thank you for reading, my name is Lloyd Townsend. |

Lloyd - Great story - specially the part about deciphering the symbol on the headstock. (I did a similar thing with Entwistle) Welcome to the club, 8 years old isn't too young to start plucking, then practice time can become 'family' time. :-D |

Hey good idea! I'll take some pics with my new space age phone! Thanks for the well wishes guys as well. I think this site is so cool. I'll do the pics tomorrow, I might not be able to up load them but I'll try. How many people are on this site anyway? And to everyone, I need a Europa 6 string! after that I need a 5er! But I feel that a 6 would stop the g.a.s. for a while thanks to Alembic for making awesome instruments and thanks to all the good people here too! My last thing is if anyone has a series bass that is kinda close to me I'd like to play one just for a minute to see what they're like. If anyone has questions about my stuff you can play it or I'll tell you whatever you want to know! Thanks again everyone! |
