Just wanted to do a quick introduction to the club. I'm currently awaiting delivery of the Zebrawood Skylark that was in the store until yesterday. I've been aware of Alembic since the mid 70's but never had an inkling that I would ever own one. It was always a desire just to touch one, to see one in the flesh, dare I say to play one. I've dropped in on Alembic web site every now and again just to fantasize until something snapped this past weekend, and I had to try to buy one. My problem was solved Monday morning around 4:30 when I woke up with a solution. Needless to say, I ordered the Skylark, and a few hours later Susan called me and told me it would be delivered today. I'm now waiting for UPS to deliver......I must say, reading the entries here, especially those from Hollis, has made me even more anxious to become an owner. I'll try to get pics when it arrives since that, apparently, is a requirement. <snicker> You know that feeling, when you're 6 or 7 and its Christmas Eve? And the one when you're about to have an interview for a new job? Put those two together and thats been my mindset for the past 29 hours..... |

Brother Robert, (I hope one doesn't call you Bob or this will get any messy as the Paul story - but that it is a looooooong and complicated one). WELCOME TO THE CLUB! And yes ...we all members just reaching puberty know EXCATLY what you mean with that X-mas thing. Now you knew that you actually can SMELL those guitars in your house?? No? Ask zebrawood instrument owners! HA! You're right about brother Hollis, he is one of our six string popes from the other side of the tonal spectrum. Anyway ...enjoy your purchase. Ho ...is that thet doorbell ringing? Ah no ...he rang twice ...that must be the postman ;-) Paul the bad one

>Thanks for the welcome, Paul. I do go by Bob, but since there are Bobs here already, I'll defer to Robert. I had read that you could smell those zebrawood guitars, and actually, was looking forward to that experience. Might just be a great way to find it during those foggy moments...working from home just to be here for the delivery has its benefits as well...lots of time to peruse the club messagees. > > regards, robert (formerly a Bob) |

Congratulations Robert (FAB), and welcome from another upper registerian. I too am awaiting the delivery of a Skylark (http://alembic.com/club/messages/631/12295.html?1095720772). I expect it to arrive on Thursday and I'll be working from home that day also. This has got to be one of the longest weeks of my life. =) Enjoy your guitar! It's a beauty. Tom |

>Tom, thanks for the welcome, and you have yourself one beautiful guitar heading your way. I saw the messages about your guitar today and could not believe how absolutely stunning it is. Your inlay of the ghost crow struck a chord with me, I would love to have something like that to remind me of a family pet I lost more then a decade ago...maybe for my next purchase I'll go the full custom route......I think I'm starting to catch that disease I've read about here..... |

Robert, I was admiring that guitar on the showroom page for the last few weeks, trying to think of an excuse to buy it. ;-) Glad you did! Question: did you go direct with Alembic or did you get a discount through a dealer? I am sure you will love it, in both appearance and sound. Great, great style in that Skylark model! EffClef |

Well hello FAB Robert. I checked out your guitar when I stopped by the showroom a week and a half ago. (One of the many advantages of living in the Bay Area. I can easily go directly to the source. "dealers? I don't need no stinkin' dealers!") I think you are going to be VERY HAPPY! It's nice to have another six-stringer aboard. We may be in the minority around here, but we're cool. You'll also find that the bass players who populate this site are good, friendly people. Of course if Alembic starts making drums, we may all be in trouble. Enjoy your new baby. As Jerry sang: "nothin' left to do but smile, smile, smile" Bill, the guitar one |

>Thank you Bill. I probably should have made a drive up to see the folks and all the finery in the showroom, one of these first Wednesdays I'd love to take the tour. > > Big Brown truck just pulled up....ahhhh no more waiting.....I may or may not be back shortly! |

Ahh Zebrawood, you can't beat it. It seems to be popping up quite a bit around here lately. Congratulations, Robert. As excited as you are now, triple that feeling when you actually hold it in your hands and caress the neck and body. Man, I've got to quit listening to Paul, it's contagious. "FAB Robert", very clever, Bill. Sam |

>This puppy feels so sweet, hollis, tis a dream. The tones that come out of it are truly unbeleivable....I read all that you Skylark owners have been saying about the different sounds you can get, but reading isn't hearing it. This must be heaven! |

It's okay with me if you still want to be Bob (at least for a while longer..). Hell, I remember being in a 3rd grade class of 25 kids, where there were four Bobs, and we never seemed to get confused. I don't know why the Pauls seem to have so much trouble with this, but that's another topic :-) Okay, it's a beauty, but are you really going to stick with those gold knobs? Seems like black would nicely compliment the ebony peghead... Now go play. We'll still be here later. -Bob (bob) |

After a rather lengthy association with various, I am convinced that there are neither Good Ones nor Bad Ones - just way too many Pauls (even not counting the pretenders, like The Fake One). |

Bob, Congratulations and welcome to the club! Beautiful zebra there! Probably the nicest I've seen. Enjoy all the sounds you're about to create. I'm not quite sure how the Series I and Series II fellas deal with all of those knobs and switches. The Skylark's implicity of design is, in no way, an indicator of the tone she's capable of. Everyday, there's something new. Enjoy the ride. Regards, Jonathan |
