Hi,
Just a quick intro, I'm a forty six year old pro bassist in Toronto, Canada.
Just bought my first, and certainly not last, alembic.Tho' I've had my heart set on a series 2 since I was born, I got a sweet deal on a new Excel, and I just love it. My biggest influence is Phil Lesh, so the attraction was obvious. I play classic rock and originals in a bar band, so the excel will see alot of use.
After a month using it on stage, I'm still in awe.
I previously played music mans and warwicks, which are fine basses, but the alembic is everything I'd hoped for and more. Even my drummer says it's easier to lock up with, and he can hear it better.
In a band called THE GROOVE that's really important. My rig is pretty simple, a yorkville hybrid 400 with a 15" and tweet, and an eden 2x10. No effects, just my wireless straight in.
Quick question. All the excels I've seen are one pick-up, mine has two, from the factory, is this odd?
Thanks.

Welcome Paul. Back in February, Susan made the following comment about the Excel:

"We made some changes/improvements on this model in the last year or so. It is now available with two pickups .. with the extra laminates. Tummy and elbow shaping topped off with a gloss body and satin neck complete the changes."

Hi Paul

jeeeeeez ...those Pauls around this club ...there must be a reason ...is there a nest around??? Paul the fake one, Paul the john one, Paul the CAPITAL one, Paul the good one, Paul ...I am forgetting some of them.

Paul welcome to the club.
No 2 PU Excels are not unusual, well ..."Normal" (huh...there is NO normal Alembic ...BTW when buying yours you enter in the league of the non-usual baasplayers, and believ eme ...there is no way back) ..."NOrmal" there is 1 PU.
Paul the Good one has an Excle with 2 PU's too.
If you cry lood enough:
ELZIE-IE-IE-IE-IE ...
he'll probably will come.
Well ...if he is not having a party with the other drunken bunnies of the ANEC.

Paul the bad one

Hey, Paul the ????? one:

Welcome, you've obviously got the disease and there's no cure. I'm one of the minority guitarists in this here club. If you stick around you'll find this to be an extremely helpful and friendly resource. Enjoy your new bass and start thinkin' about the next one. Remember, prices go up in January!

Hi Paul and welcome. Another denizen of the upper registers here. Glad to hear that you're getting the most out of your Alembic. It is a healthy addiction you have started - I hear that Series II whispering to you. =)

By the way, did anyone mention pictures???

Hi Paul,
Welcome from Montreal. Pictures??? Pictures??? How can I drool and sigh without pictures! Wouldn't it be nice if new Alembics came with a CD loaded with pictures? All I'd have to do would be to post the pictures from the CD, which would keep the hounds at bay, and give me enough time to play with my toy.
I also have a 2-pickup Excel with accent layers and laminate. IMHO, there's nothing like the growl and bite of my Excel.

Welcome to yet another Paul.

Can you drink beer? Of course, you're from Canada. Bang the empty bottles on the bar and yell for pictures? Good. You'll fit right in.....

You'll find all the support you need here as you progress in your new addition for fine instruments.
