Hi all!! I've been under the spell of Alembic basses since the late 70's when I first saw this lanky guy by the name of Clarke. After him there was this Andy West guy. Oh yeah, Entwistle and Jones factored in (though not Lesh, forgive me my adolescent naivite). They always seemed just out of reach, both practically and financially, and when I stumbled on a deal for a Pedulla MVP back in '85 it seemed that it would always be an unfulfilled lust (it's been my main bass since). I would always check one out when there was one hanging in a shop I wandered into (which was never that often) and while I had opportunities to grab an Epic or a Spoiler it was a Series I that I wanted.

The mid-90's brought a drastic change in my musical focus with marriage and job changes taking me out of clubs and into coffeehouses. A twist of fate pulled the bass out of my hands and I became a guitar player for most of the next 15 years, playing primarily in worship bands at church as both a leader and backing musician. Until once again, a change in situation pulled me away for 6 months, and when I returned the guitar slot was filled and a bass spot open. And as if the hand of god directed it I came across a listing for a Series I while simultaneously having a sufficient balance in my paypal account. Fate? I don't believe in it. LOL

It's about a week away from joining me, and I'm looking forward to it incredibly. I'll be chewing up batteries for a while looking for a blue box (if anyone has a lead on one, I'd greatly appreciate it). I'm thankful for the wealth of knowledge at thie place as it's helped me immeasureably in getting up to speed on what I'll need to know to be able to use the bass properly (who knew?!). I look forward to hanging here, and promise to post pics as soon as possible.

As for the name, it's a musical pseudonym stemming from an inside joke concerning the "Hippies Use Backdoor" sign. Given that there's a "Jake" already we'll all just have to deal with it. :-)

Cheers!!

Jake

Awesome!! Welcome to the club- a Series bass is quite an entrance into Alembic ownership.

Don't know if you're interested in a new DS5, but there is a thread about them here:
