Hello from Hamburg to the Alembic family,
I just got my first Alembic bass through eBay in the states. It is a Persuader 5-string, Nr. 88 49 35. When I played it the fist time, I was very astonished, it plays and sounds great. The neck is very small, but when you get used to it it feels fantastic.
I collect basses, guitars and amps for more then 30 years and my playing bass was a Fender Precision 63 for many years. I bought the Alembic just to complete the collection. but know I really fell in love with the sound and the playability.
I have a very rare Ser. 2 12-string guitar, Nr. 81 1767, since 1983 in my collection. I used it only in the studio, it really sounds and plays amazing!
But now, I would like to change this wonderfull guitar to a wonderfull 5-string bass, same value.
I somebody out there, who is interested?
Best regards from Hamburg, Germany
Uli

Paul; I looked around for a while, but I couldn't find any pictures of Donovan's guitar.

Hello again,
great, that you like the 12-string. I bought the rest stock of a music-shop in Hannover, called Musicians Palace in 1983. They had money problems and I bought 23 guitars, basses and amps, and heeps of Gibson and Fender parts. Sold the parts, kept the guitars. The 12-string was one of them. I only used it in the Studio and we did some great recordings with it.
I have the original case, but the papers in the case are from a Ser.1 Long Scale Bass, Nr.81 1773. I didn`t remark it over the years, but when I went with the guitar at Station-Music, the german main-dealer of Alembic, Lothar, one of the owners, remarked it. Is it possible to get the right papers in copy?
I think , Paul is right, Donovan used to play such a model and I think David Crosby too.
Best regards
Uli

Moder Dave,
I saw once a B/W picture of Donovan holding this kind of guitar. That moment I didn't know it was an Alembic (I was young and unexperienced ....HA) . It was Susan -your moder sibling- that mentioned somewhere here in these threads ...some ...where ...where ...some ...that Donovan had a Series II 12 string.
And 1 + 1 = 3.
