Hi Folks,I'm new to the Alembic ownership thing, but I've been a regular reader of the Club Forum for a couple of years now.I've enjoyed reading all the different topics discussed, and the little factoids bandied about.I've also seen some of the people here over on the Grateful Dead Music Forum. So,even though I come before you today as a stranger in your midst, I feel as though I'm talking to familiar faces, and old friends. |

Welcome to the club, Robert. What's the top wood on your Tribute bass? Even better, post some pics. People around here never tire of looking at Alembics. I think I may know your bass. Bill, the guitar one |

Hi Bill, Thank you for the kind welcome, and, yes I believe you do know this bass. This is the maple burl Custom Tribute bass that Jeff had built back in 2006. I'm sure you know the whole "rest of the story." It's in the archives. I don't have a suitable camera at the moment, but there are quite a few pics in the archive. It's still a brand-new bass just recently purchased, so you can imagine what it looks like. The only difference from the pictures is that it has grown darker in appearance. Mica says that it will continue to darken, which is fine with me because I think it looks more elegant as it darkens. So you can tell me if your hunch is correct. I'll bet that you're spot-on. Rob. |

First off - welcome to the club, Robert! I have found this to be a very friendly and informative place to hang out. If you don't mind me asking, how much does your (stunning) Tribute bass weigh and what is the scale length? |

Hi David, Thank you for the greetings. I've been enjoying reading the Club Forum for a while now before ever joining. It seems like a great group of people with a common passion for everything Alembic. To answer your questions, the bass is a 32" scale, and I'll have to get back to you on it's weight when I post recent pictures. Seems that the battery in my electronic scale went dead. Anyway, I had a nice conversation with Mica on this bass, and she told me that it's the first bass that Alembic made in the Tribute body style (the second and only other one presently is Scarlet). I have the link for Bass Central in case any of you want to zoom in on older pics for a closer look. They even have Soundcloud clips if you want to get an idea of what it sounds like. As all you Alembic owners know, it sounds much better live. http://www.basscentral.com/alembicbass/ltd.shtml Rob. |

Welcome to the club from Scotland Rob. We had loads of discussions with jeff when your bass was being crafted. here is the original factory to customer thread. It certainly gives a good idea of the thought that goes into some of these customs. Graeme |

Thank you for the welcome and the archive link, Graeme. I think I went through every bit of the archive from the laminating of the chosen neck woods to the very completion. I'm totally blown away by the whole build process, the endless communications between Jeff and Mica, the whole process of choices, then changes, etc. I came to appreciate every detail as if I was having it built. I'll also tip my hat to the final choices decided upon by Jeff and the Alembic team. To me, it's perfect! In fact, I'm so overwhelmed by it that I deliberately waited until 12/12/13 to join the club. That's the 7 year anniversary of its completion! Now it has a loving home, and lots of T.L.C. I hope to have recent photos by next week. That's about the soonest that I can get a good camera over here. My cell phone camera stinks......... Rob. |
