Hi Wolf, thanks a lot!!! Well, the bass was originally built for the NENA bass player Juergen Dehmel (biggest hit in the 80ies: '99 Red Ballons'). It's a 1985 Series II Custom. I've met Juergen a couple of years ago and he told me the story about the bass, that he had to confirm three times in a written form, that the bass has to be black colored - I guess it was quite unusual to order a Series II in black ;-) Some weeks ago I saw the bass in a Munich store - I had to ... ;-) The rig is a DS-5 and a F-2B powered by a Glockenklang 'Bugatti 300' stereo amp. As a result, the treble pick-up goes to the Glockenklang 4x10 'Take Five' speaker and the bass pick-up goes to the 1x15 Glockenklang 'Uno Deluxe Light' speaker. I'm still overextended by the gear, because I was the Fender Precision/Orange amp till now ;-) Frank | ||

Frank, Thanks for the update about your rig. I am sure that it sounds wonderful . I find that when I play an Alembic Series I/II that I get the most satisfaction playing "stereo" as well ; such as you have routed your signal. | ||

Hi Wolf, thanks! Yeah it sounds pretty nice so far but I'm still not into the frequency settings of the bass yet. I've never had more than three knobs on my bass before ;-) Are there some samples of settings available? Frank | ||

Very Nice Bass and Rig!Welcome to the Alembic Club!!! You have great taste in equipment I see..I would like to hear those Glokenklangs!!! I have a series distillate!But I'm running 2 F1-X's a, QSC 1804, 2:2x10 custom cabinets (my design)housing Kappa 3010 LF for the bottom and Kappa 3010 HO for the treble. For effects I'm using the Lexicon MPX1 and EBS Envelope pedal for the treble and a EBS Octave pedal for the Bottom side.In addition I just put a Stroborack in my rig for tuning. Keep it low and stay outta treble! | ||

I'll check the FAQ regarding the frequency settings - I am sure, I'll find the answers to my questions. @Keith: thanks! It sounds very nice indeed, but there is still a lot of sound capacity which I haven't found yet - still turning on the knobs ;-) @Charles: thanks! You have an amazing rig!!! Sounds like a really interesting collection! Would you mind to put some pics on the page? That'd be great! After purchasing the Alembic bass, which was by accident as I've written before, I was looking for a stereo preamp first. I was keen to check out this great opportunity to send the pick-up signals in different directions! It's not so easy to find a F1-X or F-2B on the market. So I bought a F-2B from a nice guy from Charlottesville, Virginia, USA via ebay as the first part of the chain. I was looking for a F1-X as well but didn't spot any. I've had a Crown DC-300 Series II power amp already which was the interim solution till the Glockenklang Bugatti 300 arrived last week. I was looking for a QSC as well (I guess Stanley Clarke uses QSC as well!), but I've got the recommendation to check out the Glockenklang stuff and as a result I ended there. It's a German company with a very good support. I found all the stuff in ebay, except the 1x15 Speaker which I've bought new - I was fortunate because I've got the last available. A friend of mine gave me the information that Glockenklang doesn't produce this model anymore and I had to act quite fast! These Speakers are hard to get because of the 4Ohm impedance and the light version. The risk was too high to get none on the market for used equipment thus I bought a new one. I'm using a EBS pedal (Chorus) as well (it's not on the picture yet). This effect is only working for the treble pick-up/4x10 combination. Good idea to send the Octave to the 1x15 - I have to think about it ;-) @Art: thanks!!! Have a nice weekend everybody! Frank | ||

Your rig = awesomeness. I remember several years ago Bass Player magazine did a huge "shootout" article comparing like 30 different bass amps. The Glockenklang wasn't even part of the amp shootout or review---they were using it as the "gold standard" of pristine bass tone by which they were measuring all the others. | ||

You can see my rig (well one of them)..Look up Chalie's rig, and there you will see my Distillate series bass. I think I have "Chalie's Distillate" page also. I'll take some new photos of my current rig that I just described to you and put it up as "Chalie's revamped rig" in a few days. |
