Hey folks, I've been posting on this website for a little bit now and have yet to give a formal introduction for which I apologize. I've been an Alembic addict since the first time I saw John Entwistle with his Alembic in the booklet from The Kids Are Alright album. After going to my first NAMM show and meeting Mica and her family, that was it for me!!! Stanley Clarke has been one of my biggest influences and I had the chance to interview him a couple of years ago for the cover story of Bass Frontiers magazine. Yes I do play other basses as well, but only when the gig calls for something else. The first bass in my gig bag every night though is my trusty old Elan that I've had since '91. It's been around the world with me a few times and will continue to come with me. My other Alembic is a fretless Orion 5 string with Elan electronics that Alembic did for me in '96. Any suggestions are always welcome. I did this website myself even though I'm not a webdesigner. You know the saying, somethings just have to be done on your own. Hi Dino, I went to your web straight ahead! Well done. I looked it up at home via a "slow" standard telephone line and modem but anyway, I'll come by your site again as soon as I'm back in the office with faster datalines. I was pleased to see you're a teacher too. I will run in to a Belgian store in Antwerp where they have a lot of teaching material and see if I can look at one there. I was asked two weeks ago to start teaching bass in a small local "music-atelier" (so not even a school) but I didn't dare doing it: I'm still playing with a lot of heart. So the mind can not always explaining what I'm doing or what my intentions are. I'm even not that great sight-reader or music-writer. So "teaching' would be difficult. I don't know If I ever get to the Boston area but I'll keep your invitation in mind! CU Paul PS: Sorry for the blunt question but what's the joke about lower the 5th fret. Man, This is like old home coming week. Let's see, where do I start. First to Paul E. I work right off of Olympia Ave part time. I'm usually there from 9 - 2:15, then I go pick my daughter up from school. We should all go for a beer sometime, minus my daughter of course. In fact if you want to make the trek, every Thurs night in Cambridge, Central Square, The Goodlife. I'm there from 9:30 - 12:30. And yes I do believe they still have the Boot Mills rehearsal space. I live in Lowell about 5 mins from there. Now to Mark, Yup that was me and I do remember your Distillate very well. The one with the Persuader style body right!?! You were one of the only people that came into that store that I could talk bass gear with!!! Thank you for remembering me!! Outside of working a part time gig, I'm pretty much playing and teaching and writing books full time. Now to Paul Lindemans. You know some of my best and favorite teachers never showed me a note but they did have a lot of heart and they played that way too. Everyone has something to offer to another player regardless if they can sight read or not. To answer your question about the no money below the fifth fret...I had a teacher that when every time I went to solo or "show off", he would say, "there's no money below the fifth fret" meaning that if you want to work and make a living playing bass, you have to keep it simple and grooving. Ironically, his name was Paul too, Paul Farnen. Great teacher!!!!! Anyway, I hope that answers everyone's questions. WOW, regarding all those beer-drinking bass-players it must be belgian-bass-player-paradise. I better move over and bring the beers (Lindemans is also a beer-brand - rather typical belgian taste).
