Hi there, I got my first Alembic yesterday from a private seller in the UK (also a member on this board I think). It is my eleventh bass in total and it is up there with the best of them. It sounds deeper than my Marleaux did, fatter than the 57 p-bass did and sparklier than the pedulla did! I love it.

I just have this and a Vigier 1988 passion series 1 with Marleaux electronics at the moment.

A pic:

As you can see it is an Elan 6, made in 1990.

I look freward to discussing the hot topics with you all here!

Cheers

Hi Chris, welcome to the Alembic Club and congrats with your beautiful Elan, she a really stunning and truly impressive piece!
Enjoy and please don't forget to eat and sleep every now and then (a common phenomenon during the 'honeymoon').

Hi - congratulations on your purchase what a beautiful bass. I've only recently bought mine so I'm still discovering what it's capable of, but it's definately the best bass that I've owned. This is (I think) my 15th bass.

Hello Chris

That bass looks familiar! Have you experimented with different strings yet? Your mention of an MK seems to me to suggest the first symptoms of an inexorable slide into Alembiholism. Better lock up your wallet!

Hi Ben! I was meant to get some elixirs today but by the time I got back from the Witney carnival dog show it was too late! I will order some this week if I can afford it! I have given the current strings a good clean and the actually sound fine but just dont feel that nice. I will probably go for the standard gauge elixirs in actual fact as I am getting used to them on this bass. can you remember if the G string was a 0.045? feels like it.

I wouldnt mind the MK but to be honest I am not crazy about the looks and have more than enough Alembic here to keep me satisfied (im trying to put myself off.. isnt working)

Cheers Ben, was also great to meet you and your lovely basses.

Chris

Chris

Existing strings were 30, 45, 65, 80, 100, 130. They felt pretty rough, I agree (d'Ad Pro Steels). Just an experiment, they sounded great for a couple of hours then... The standard Elixir set has a 32 C & 105 E but otherwise the same weights. It'll sound and feel an awful lot better when refreshed with Elixirs.

An MK would be lovely but if you possibly can, get a Series bass one day, it's the full deck...
