After using a Stingray 5 for years in the studio I just started gigging in a band on bass since the band leader is as good a guitarist as me and I am now living in a isolated country area with limited decent bands and gigs. In the studio I was fine with the B string but live I get hyper vibed up and would occasionally go back into guitar mode an play the B string as if it was an E. You can't erase years of gigs lol. So since the band already tuned down to Eb I started looking for a good 4 string bass. Scored an Alembic Essence and man I am just in <3 I used to build guitars and basses years ago for Asher Guitars in West LA ... (my main guit is still one of my customs) so I am not easily impressed but for a bass the Alembic is insane! Brass nuts went out the window in guitarland 35 years ago but WoW it just makes sense on bass ... massive strings ... massive mass and I have a massive hardon for my Alembic! I have an acoustic bass also and am thinkin' of putting a brass nut on that also. Probably it will only affect the open string but maybe will reduce extraneous vibrations in the headstock? I normally wouldn't join any club which would have me as a member but I am really honoured Mica to be an Alembic bass player. I saw Stanley play with Miroslav Vitous in Sydney years ago and I cried. Never cried at a gig before ... it was just gorgeous .... like my Alembic and yes she talks back to me but doesn't start with a small blow and then take half my house! <3 |
