Finally got my first Alembic today after 20+ years of wanting one. Wow! It's great to be part of the club. I got an 84 Spoiler Exploiter, and what everyone says about how Alembics play is absolutely correct!

Welcome Gregg,

Wow indeed! Congratulations on making your dream come true after all this time. Exploiters are fun basses. Put up some pictures in the showcase section when you can.
Hope you enjoy it for a long time.

Yes as you can see it's looks different...
I prefer the spalted maple but the job is done excellent by a professional. The former owner thinks it's cool and refreshing.
Anyway changing it again to original could be painfully expensive......Any idea's anyone??

Earl,

what a coincidence. That very bass was subject to a "thread" on this club soem months ago. If you check around you'll find it. Some of the brothers were "pro" some were "contra". To strip off the paint must be possible I think. Just ask the "Moder".

Hey Gregg,

Welcome to the club!!!! Yeah, please post pix when you can!!! New "fathers" always have pictures of their babies!!!!

Hey Earl,
Welcome as well!!! I kinda like the gold sparkle. I'm sure Mica and the folks at Alembic can recommend something if you really want to put it back to original though!!

Peace,
Dino

I could go either way on this one. I like the sparkle finish. It is a nice contrast that they just did the top. I know how you feel though. I have a black Alembic that I would love to put some paint remover on.

Does anyone else find it funny to see that the 4 string Series II is almost as big and wide as that Doubleneck 5 string Carvin?

Earl: Which one weighs more? :-)

I was "shocked" at how stunning the back is; very nice piece of spalted maple.

Jazzy35, spalted maple is wonderful "BUT" I bet you have the only gold top Alembic in the world, that's got to be worth something. by the way, I think I like it.

Hey Earl,
Now your the second Earl, imagine that! I can't believe you got the gold flake we all talked about so much, what a trip. I hope you like it, Alembics are awesome, I have one with a see through smokey black finish as well as one with a natural wood finish. Hope you have killer tone.
Peace,
Earl

jazzy35:

I just can't tell you the fun we all had debating 'painted' ALEMBICs on the post mentioned by PALEMBIC (the OTHER Paul) a few months ago when we saw the EBay listing ! Maybe someone can post a link to that thread.

Good for You! And hey, isn't this all about having the only one like it in the whole world?
Congrats ! !

Gregg, we're glad you've joined us.

Brother Joey!!
I didn't found the thread eahther!
LOL!
BTW
Palembic = Brother Paul (TBO = the bad one)
Elzie = Brother Paul (TGO = the good one)
Dino (bptfo) = Brother Paul the fake one

But ...if we go further with teh Usernames -it seems that we have to seen the last initiative of our beloved "moders"- there will be no mess-up anymore.
Pity!
It was fun and it's getting too serious over here.

I have an idea too mess-up a little more:
BigRedBass = Joey (bptuo) = Brother Paul The Ugly One

HA!!!

Guess I am glad I bought THE SPARKLE seeing the price increase wow $13000 for a standard series 4.
That's incredible....... makes you wonder whether
it's justified.
Still trying to get used to it......
Thankx for all replies and nice to meet you all!!

Oh yes I forgot it's a 98 year and it's not used at all. The frets are immaculate......
It plays a bit heavy, I have to change the strings
on it and play with the lowest action.
As you see on the picture I am used playing 5 string with wide stringspacing. Practice......
Earl
