Hi lucky people!

I'm just new on this forum, and after more than 20 years of dreaming, I finally got my first Alembic.

She's an Elan 6 string and I'm very happy with her.
Well, I'm not a 6 string player so I still need a lot of practice to get use to the wide (but still playable) neck, but she was the only left handed (yes, I'm lefty) Alembic I've ever seen (or, at least, close enough to be bought).

The bass needs some adjustments (it arrived from Spain) but I already played a gig with her and it was great.

As soon as I have some cool pictures I'll post them somewhere in this forum.

Anyway, I'm very happy to be part of this community/family and I'm sure I will enjoy it.

Ciao.

Congrats and welcome! Yes, six string left handed Elans are a bit rare; so congrats on the find!

Hi Giancarlo. :-)

Welcome to the Alembic 'Family' and congratulations on your six string! :-)

I'm also a lefty, though I play with right hand stringing. I'm currently in the market for one, so I know how it goes when looking for left handed Alembics. On a positive note you're more fortunate than me, as I have to have a new tail piece, nut and saddles before I'm able to play. Experience has shown though, it's well worth the wait. :-)

Best Regards,

Kimberly :-)

Hi Kimberly.

You know what the funny thing about it is?
The guy who sold me this Alembic is a lefty who plays with reversed strings, just like you do.
I guess I've been very lucky finding him just before you (the bass was on eBay last year), I'm sure it would have been perfect for you.

Now I have had to do some adjustment (a new brass nut and some other little issue) on it in order to bring it back to its original glory, and it took quite some money and time.

After few months, I have to admit that this bass it's really hard to play (at least for me).
I got other 5 and 6 string basses, but this is the only one with broad neck and playing it can be very difficult (and painful, expecially in the first positions) sometimes.

But I'm still very happy (and proud) about having an Alembic bass, the tone is awesome and the only shame is that I'm not a good bass player as I would like to be, but I still enjoy playing this beautiful bass.

Hi Giancarlo,

You know, this bass of yours sounds very much like the one I sold to someone in Florida back in 2006 who told me he was selling it it to someone in Spain! I loved the sound but I sold it because I ultimately could not adapt to the broad nut width of almost three inches! Let me guess; does it have a cocobolo top with chrome hardware and a maple body? If so I hope you enjoy it and wish you the best with your new Alembic.

Ciao,
