I suppose a bit of an introduction is in order. I'm a 19 year old computer programmer from North Carolina. I've been playing music of sort or another for about 8 years, starting with Trombone in middle school, and starting to learn the piano a year or so later. Got my first guitar 4 years ago, and my first bass in early 2002. I now consider the bass my primary instrument. My current rig is: 1994 Alembic Epic 6 String Fretless * - 5pc Maple Neck * - Walnut Top * - Maple ghost frets * - Mahogany Body * - 2 (Previous owner retrofit...ick) EMG Humbuckers 2003 Fender American P-Bass Crate BFX100 Amp I play and listen to all styles of music. Favorite bands include: Jimi Hendrix, Parliment/Funkadelic, Sly & Robbie (A killer reggae rythmn section), Phish, the Grateful Dead, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Jaco Pastorius, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin, and Rush. I'm gonna bet you're one heck of a bass player too if you like Sly and Robbie as rythmn section. . they are phenomenal. Welcome Aboard! Jeff p.s. Okay.. here we go.. I'm 41. Just got the second bass I've ever owned. An Orion 5 string. Was a music major in college. Played bass in the jazz band at TCU from 1980 to 1983. If you ever heard Harrell Bosarge (major awesome drummer) it was my privilage to play bass with him for two years. I'm interested to know if anyone has seen or heard of him. I've done some really low key studio stuff, and only played with a couple of "bands" so to speak. Mainly I've played in church. Music that has influenced me???? Of course Stanley Clark, Weather Report, an old group "Seawind", Eagles, Doobies, Koinania, lots and lots of Abe Laboriel, Brothers Johnson, Earth Wind and Fire...and and old friend who used to play for Mickey Gilley (can you believe it) named Doug Driesel. I'm a pastor in Texas, but know of some of the most outstanding musicians that I get to hook up with only once a year ... but my new Orion has taken that particular experience to a new level. I'm really wanting to learn some more stuff so .... I'll be listening to you guys and asking some questions. come on... teach me! PS | ||

There is a Harrell Bosarge listed as the drummer on "Live From Austin", a Delbert McClinton album released in 1989; and also on a "Best of Mountain Stage" album released in 1991 on which there is a cut from McClinton. That's a very nice looking Orion. Is that a Purpleheart top? And signature electronics? The knobs look a little unusual in the picture; maybe it's just the angle, but they kinda look like stacks. | ||

Dave- Yes Harrell played with Delbert McClinton. I saw him on Austin City Limits one night playin for him and my two thoughts were.... "that guy sure lost a lot of weight" and "at least someone is doing somethin with their tallent". Thanks for the info. Its a cocobola top, cocobola fingerboard. Yes they are signature electronics. They had to do a bit of finigaling and reshaping though. Now.. to show my ignorance, thus the reason i'm here: knobs.... um... stacks?? Paul (the bad/other one), the pic is hidden on the "owning an alembic" page under the topic "heartbreak turned into joy". And thanks for the warm welcome. I, too, am weird, huggable, and understanding (I believe 'sweet' is subjective and therefore will let someone else discern that quality in my... lol). | ||

A coco bolo top; I was fooled by the light. It does look nice. By stacks I meant stacked knobs like some electonics makers use when they put the bass tone control and the treble tone control on the same knob.
