Greetings fellow Alembic lovers. Just wanted to introduce myself to the club. Believe it or not my Series II is the first/only Bass I have ever bought. I have been a Deadhead since about 1991, and playing bass on and off since '92. I was in a band that never really got off the ground, or even out of the rehearsal space. My rig was a geek's dream. It started with my stereo. I had learned early from The Jeff that "Prissy Audiophile" gear will not accurately reproduce the Phil Zone without destroying itself. So I went to my friendly neighborhood PA dealer and scored a pair of Altec Lansing "Voice of the Theater" speakers. These were the real deal with a 15" horn loaded woofer and an exponential horn tweeter. The cabinets were about 3' high, 3' Wide and 2' deep. It looked like there was a Mack Truck parked in the living room, the neighbors loved me. These were rated at about 100-150 watts. So what did I get to power them, heh-heh-heh, a used A/B Precedent Series 600 amplifier (375 Watts per channel RMS--All day all night). I christened the setup "The Binford Leasebreaker 9000s." When I started playing Bass I played borrowed stuff, then I bought the Alembic, and played it through borrowed equipment. One of my guitarist friends bought an ART SGX 2000 preamp and effects unit. I thought it was so neat that when I found out they made a version for the Bass (Nightbass SE) I had to buy it. I also found a homemade 1x15 cabinet loaded with an EV driver, and that coupled with the A/B bridged was my rig. After a few years of playing, my equipment experienced kind of a diaspora. My bass and rig ended up in my Best Man's basement. One of my friends borrowed the nightbass for a gig, and it ended up staying the dude's house where the gig was. Well, life moves fast these days and I lost contact with my best man while he was going through some personal issues, and the bass and other stuff stayed at his house. We finally caught up with each other, and now I have everything back but the preamp. The aforementioned "The Jeff" is also working on extricating my Nightbass from Purgatory, and soon the rig will be whole once more. All I have to do now is find a band looking for an overweight, hairy, out-of-practice bassist. PS: elzie & palembic I only have one thing to say: mmmmmmmmmm beeeeerrrr, woo-hoo. | ||

As long as you have hair ....that makes up! You have to consider these Pauls as the "Waldorf & Slater" of this club. We are the noisy guys yelling "pictures-pictures" in the back of the audience and slapping their beer-cans on the table in front of them. You also have Paul the fake one/the artist formerly known as Dino. He is wiser than us and if you paint him green he makes a great Kermit! LOL. Anyway, nice to have you with us in this most weird, most sweet club of greatest people on earth. Paul the bad one I think we definitely have to start "breeding": we need more bassplayers for a better world. | ||

Yes. I agree with Paul about the club.... However, I married another bass player at one time. We were told the only way we could do this was if we promised not to breed! John Paul BTW- welcome to the club! | ||

Kermit!?!?!? WOW!!!! I've been called a lot of things but never Kermit. Anyway, welcome to the club!!!! This is a wacky place but really a lot of fun. AH YES!!! I too remember the days of having 3 SVT rigs in my apartment in Hollywood. 3 heads and 3 8x10 cabinets. My neighbors used to scatter when they heard the cooling fans come on!!!! BTW-I need to buy a laptop so I can log in on the road. I'm trying to catch up on all the posts I've missed. Peace, Dino(bptfo/tafkad) now referred to as Kermit!!!! | ||

Wow, 3 fully loaded SVT-Rigs in an apartment. Your neighbors must have been deaf, dead or metal guitarists. No wonder you've got so many earthquakes in LA area. | ||

Hahaha! Hollywood will put up with any kind of eccentric - IF they are an artist! The Binford Leasebreaker - that rules! I used to have a couple of Altec VoTTs - badass. I used them with a Sun Coliseum head (I was really into Chris Squire back then). |
