Hi everyone, Names Mark, And just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a singer songwriter and been working on recording some of my old tunes as of late. So I busted out my Alembic and GL bass with alembic pickups. My Alembic is 1982... hmm can't remeber the model, I do remember it is not their most vaulable bass as it is Alembics first bass they actually entered into a mass production with. Ahhh I remember!! 1982 Spoiler. I use a 1940's model J45 gibson for my acoustics and an american fender strat for electric, but by far my mother instrument is the bass.Alembic just has such a cool history in music i'm glad i have a piece of its history in my collection. Hi Tony, I have 6 kids and they all want a piece of my acoustic lol. Not sure how they will break that down! Only one kid left at home so I've done my share of giving free lessons! | ||

Thanks for the nice welcome everyone! Tony here is a pic of my gibson acoustic and my spoiler bass, along with a G&L bass with alembic pickups. All of them are players guitars and I use the heck out of them so they are not pretty. But I bought that gibson from a pawnshop for 40 dollars about 12 years ago and took it to a luthier friend of mine and he reribbed it and gave her a new life. $40!!!!!!!!!!! Hell, I WORK in a pawnshop and can't get one for $40...I guess you'll never win the lottery 'cause ya already did once...$40!!! man, I bet he's outta business...I did get a 1960 transition Gibson Melody Maker (large pickups) for basically free from my boss though, so I guess I won't win the lottery either...the Spoiler and G&l are nice too...thanks for sharing, Tony | ||

funny story on that gibson purchase too, the guitar was in its original case. I had to call a frined to bring me the forty dollars, he drove to newark and dropped off the money then left, i purchased the guitar and placed it back in the case and got ready to leave. the owner stopped me and said the case was 10 dollars. I didnt even have the ten bucks so i offered my 300 dollar car stereo for pawn, he didnt want it, I came back the next day to purchase the case, he said he had sold it. Never could figure that out. But in looking at it all sometimes those cases can be as valuble or more then the guitars I have heard. BTW all my instruments have been bought from pawnshops. All of them way below their actual value. would like to see your melody maker  nice boss you have there. | ||

I'll post pics sometime, maybe the Distillate and Melody Maker together...my boss basically forgot to take my money, but over the years I've done so many jewellery repairs for the shop on my time I figure we are more than even...Tony. |
