Happy B-day David - I was 53 yesterday. It has its downsides, but given the alternative, I'll take the pains. And the lovely & charming let me buy some of Edwin's graphite pick stash - not a Tribute, but at our age we take what we can get.

Happy B-day David & Peter.

Ah, it seems what we have here is the Aries section of the Alembic club! I too turned 53 in April ... that is April 9th of last year. Yes it is true, my days as a 53 year old grow very short indeed. There is, however, always a bright side. Next week I shall be 54, and thus will be able to truthfully claim to be better than Jerry Garcia at at least one thing. (Can I get a "GRRROOOOOAAAANNNNNN?")

Hey, we sort of share a birthday, Bill - I was 53 yesterday, but I'll be 34 on the 9th (4-9-75 - if the wreck had been about 1 block farther from the hospital...yeah, 53 really does beat dead at 19!)

Peter

PS - David: is "Toured with Elvis" a really cool band name or did you? And geez, how young were you????

Peter, I toured the U.S. with a Elvis impersonator in 1977, we started the tour three weeks after Elvis had died, the tour started in Washington D.C. and ended some where in Calif. with a month in Las Vegas, and yes I played my Alembic Series 1 the whole tour. I was 21 years old and when the tour was over I bought my first Porsche and paid off my Series 1, what a year that was !!!!

"TOURED WITH ELVIS"
that would be a great name for a band !!

More congruance! I was doing sound for an Elvis impersonator in '77. Started in Jan, & was with them When The King Passed On - left them a few weeks after. It was truly weird; John (the singer) got almost suicidal - thought there was no point to music if E was dead, and refused to go on at the first few gigs after - and this is after we were set up & the crowd was drunk. It got hairy a few times (Think Blues Brothers - and 2 out of 3 were without the chicken wire), No Alembic or Porsche for me. We were working redneck bars in southern OH (yes, I realize that's redundant), & I got $15 a night & all the beer I could drink.

I hope you took all the beer you could drink Peter, sounds like you needed and deserved it...happy birthday to all as well, I turned 43 this year, and this year is also 2 years cancer free (melanoma...sucks to be a pale Scotsman...) so so far actually a good year for me, and I hope all of you as well...Tony

54 last Friday, here. Still holding together, I guess.
In 77 I was backing up a lounge singer who kindof thought he was Elvis. Right after Elvis died was a pretty weird time to be hanging with people who were totally into him.

Today I am 54 - something that even the great Jerry Garcia never accomplished! (53 was, admittedly, a little spooky for me). It's also Hugh Hefner's b-day, but I think he has a few years on me. lol Played with my band Stonetrout last night and I'll be playing in a dead jam this weekend. Oh yea, and my 14 year old and I are going to opening night at the A's tomorrow. I suspect I may be getting a musically related gift or two later today. The funny thing is I can remember when I thought 54 was getting old - I was obviously quite stupid back then!
