Hi everybody, I've been reading for a few days all kinds of post on this board and I find them really interesting. I've been dreaming an Alembic for many years but now maybe it's time to look into it seriously, although the budget doesn't allow me a new one ! I like Spoiler and Distillate, I think one of this 2 will be mine. Btw my name is Enzo and I live in Chicago. |

Enzo, BUY ONE!!!! I love my Distillate SOO much!! I guess ya gotta decide what scale you like - I like 32" scale... Seriously, everyone who's played my bass has wanted it and hopes I'll sell it...not bloody likely! They'll have to find their own... Really...BUY ONE!!! they are the nicest basses you will likely ever play! Tony |

Hey there Enzo... Well, I have a Distillate as well. And guess what? You have to get one!!! While Tony's is a medium scale, mine is short. You should try around, to see what suits you best... But indeed, you came to a place where absolutely everyone is going to tell you: BUY ONE!!! Hope to see it in the showcase thread soon! Greg |

Enzo, welcome! After I decided what Alembic I wanted, an early Distillate, it took a lot of searching. They are all unique, so the more specific you get in your search will make it that much more difficult to find. There are so many beautiful Alembics. I am most impressed with the way it plays effortlessly and the tones. It is so easy to sound good. The medium scale helps me. I might even like a short scale. Whatever you decide, you can't go wrong. Check out the EVH body, but good luck trying to find one. Colin |

Colin, I went for a Spoiler and I'm really happy for the choice. I'm stunned of the way it sounds, the growl is breathtaking and like you say, it plays effortlessly. Also is very easy to get the sound you want, that tone knob is magic ! I can only imagine how a Series can sound ! I saw the EVH body and I like it a lot. Mmmm, need to talk to my banker PS: There are a couple of pics in the Showcase. (Message edited by enzo on April 20, 2009) |

Hey Chalie, thank you so much for the welcome ! I'm really happy to be part of the Alembic family. You're totally right, I can't put it down, my wife says that when I play it I look hypnotized haha ! I'm already looking for another one, this time will be a Distillate ( can't afford a Series, yet ! ). I'm trying to understand the differences, I've posted this question on your thread also. |

Enzo Congrats! That is a sweet looking Spoiler. I hope you get your Distillate as well, so you can explain the differences in feel and sound to me. I cant stop playing either. I would like to check out a short scale with the thinnest neck available. If I could change anything on my bass it would be the neck thickness. My Distillate has is the thickest neck I have played on any 4 string. Guys, what is the thinnest Alembic neck and would a thinner neck change the tone at all? How can I tell what neck thickness my bass has? Colin |

Colin, thank you. I'm sure that if you liked the 32" scale, you'll like the short scale too which is only an inch and 1/4 shorter. I never tryed a short scale either but I feel I would like it. It's all down to personal taste though, it's hard to say. Soundwise, I'm not sure if there would be any difference. I think there will be an Alembic meeting 30 miles away from me the end of May. Can't miss it, it'll be a great chance to learn. I'll bring lots of paper towel to try to stop the drools. I just hope it's confirmed ! |
